trouble germinating seeds

I am really new to seed starting, so I am planning to experiement with different methods and seeds. But, first I have a question, has anybody else had any problems with seeds from Wal-Mart coming up? I'm sure a lot of it has a do with the grower and her lack of patience.

Amazingly enough, I went outside right after I made that last post and a few seeds were sprouting that I had potted probably a month ago or more. I had already dumped most of them out. The ones that sprouted had been drenched from a rain. Maybe I didn't give them enough water. Problem is, I don't know which ones are growing.
The methods I have tried were growing them in flower pots and peat pots outside. Then I tried putting them in little peat pots with the seed starting mix and I used the oven method like Janlyn uses. It has been a week and a half and nothing has came up.
Ok I have tried Walla, Walla Onions, Cleome, African Daisies, Moss Rose, Coleus, Rosemary, Basil, Marjoram, Mixed Bell Peppers, Nasturtiums and I have grown Nasturtiums before and I did soak them and nick the seeds, and lettuce seeds. A few sprigs of lettuce came up, but the heat got them.
