Our temps hit at least 29 this past winter. Since there's a tall queen palm it helped give a bit of frost protection but I believe Maid of Orleans would be at least hardy to that. Any less and they'd have to come back from the roots. If the roots freeze, they're history.
Ya'll don't use Bayer systemics for mealybugs?
One other question, if you can get maid of orleans in local wallmarts might you stick one in the ground during your growing season as an annual?

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Please tell me what Bayer systemics is. I am VERY interested.

I would think you could certainly put the plants you get at Walmart in the ground. They would no doubt be happier in good soil than in a pot that they have been in without food for God knows how long. You will notice if they are not happy and then you can remove them. I would give it a try if I lived in FL. I always repot my plants that come from Walmart or Acme or those stores because I am never sure what they have been potted in and that makes a world of difference. Depending on the plant, it came from the grower to the distributor and then to the store. Who knows how long that was.
Will look forward to Bayer information. Thanks. I hate mealybug and that is the only pest I have.JB

Yikes Kevin...that's right - I remember you mentioning that. NOT temps ya'll are accustom to, for sure!! As for the Sambac in the ground...I'm sure she'd have been thrilled...I would've been challenged to find an area w/o too much sun in my front though. My back would've worked but I wouldn't have been able to enjoy that fragrance from my deck... :( Gonna think on this for next year though..for sure. Definitely time (or past time) to put her in the pot she'll be over wintered in...good reminder JB - thank you.
Oh as for the Bayer...I really prefer not using the harsh chemicals any more...I wish there were another option...
