I bought some Oriental lilies in pots today. I was wondering if I can keep them in pots until I can plant them. Should I dig them up after they bloom? When is the proper time to plant them in the ground? I'm afraid to plant them now, because they are starting to bloom and It is so hot here already.
Oriental lilies in zone9a
You can plant them any time. They'll appreciate some shade, especially in the afternoon.
I got some asiatics as well as orientals at Brent & Becky's summer sale. I potted them and kept in shade and then in late fall I transplanted inground. They are beginning to bloom.
as moby said, afternoon shade most appreciated.
