This plant was a gift from a lady who had no idea what it was. Underground, it looks much like an Easter lily but I've not yet seen whether it will bloom. Can anyone tell me whether it is a desireable plant?

Thanks!!

My guess would be that you have a lily lancifolium, or tiger lily. A neighbor of mine had them, They are known for dark purplish brown bulbils. The larger ones can be dislodged and planted. Once they get large enough they will drop to the ground and begin to grow. They can multiply very vigorously this way.

Google pictures of tiger lilies, and see if you like them. They are tough and will require little or no care. Indeed, judging bymy neighbor's experience, no care.

Yes, do look like my 'grandmothers' tiger lilies......I have a hard time keeping them....we have an infestation of beetles that eat leaves....I use bayer 12 mo. systemic insecticide on them and have saved them....was losing them all...

Thanks, folks! Maybe they will bloom and I'll post a picture!
