camillia disease??

hi, does anyone know what disease or parasite might be causing this on my camillia? i'm wondering if it caused the catbird to abandon her nest w/ 4 eggs in it in this tree.

Maybe a smut fungus. Probably best to remove and destroy them to reduce the risk of further infection. Don't think it'll have affected the catbirds, though.

thanks resin, is there something i should spray ( neem oil et at) to keep it from spreading to my others? is it coming from the ground or it an air born spore?
