What kind of catterpillar is this?

I think he is so pretty. He is on an amaryllis leaf. You can see the rain drops on him.

This caterpillar appears to be in the subfamily Arctiinae of the moth family Erebidae. The image is not clear enough for a positive i.d.; possibilities include the Virginian tiger moth, Spilosoma virginica (see http://tinyurl.com/yhr7pqh), and the salt marsh caterpillar, Estigmene acrea (see http://tinyurl.com/2cv9we4). Caterpillars of both these species can be highly variable in appearance.
