CLOSED: Hummingbird moth?
This is a sphinx moth (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae); also known as hawk moths or hummingbird moths. It appears to be the banded sphinx moth (Eumorpha fasciatus), a species that ranges from South America north through Central America and Mexico and often strays quite far north into the United States.
