If you want a blue and yellow combo - blue salvias and yellow coreopsis looks magnificent.
You don't see the coreopsis in this photo. Believe me they're in there. Late bloomers. Both plants blooms through the whole season if deadheaded.

This is last year's photo. This is the coreopsis planted with those blue salvias. Early Sunrise I think is the name.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

great gardens everyone

Thomaston, CT

I agree....lots of yellow & blue right now.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Yellow and blue flowers together are very pretty! Thanks, Tex and Katye.....all very pretty!

Thanks Tex and Katye.

We were ahead of you about 6 weeks ago - I don't have a picture, but i will suggest a nice combo for anyone who likes the yellow-blue theme: Thermopsis with Centaureas, particularly Amethyst Dream. Also, some of the heucheras that tend towards the purpley side of the spectrum look nice with yellows that aren't too golden.
Looks good together until the rabbits do in the Centaureas...if this keeps up. I will need to cage everything.

Liquid fence keeps those rabbits at bay

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

doing a slow burn here....would it be ok to hose them down with it? I thought the squirrels were bad, but at least they have the presence of mind to let things grow on a bit before beginning the consumption game.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have a mild deer and rabbit problem but spray religeously from March to September every 2-3 weeks. I believe it works as most of my garden is intact.

Thomaston, CT

Red lily beetles are my scourge....I've sprayed 3 times, & I'm STILL seeing them....very discouraging.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

It's the squirrels here I find the most annoying they just rip up plants, looking for I don't know what.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

RedLB is on the endangered list here too.
I heard there is a program to introduce a preditor .Just rhumor unless anyone else has heard or knows.

Thomaston, CT

I was hoping the birds might eat them, but apparently not....I just hate them, they are devestating my lilies!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Sorry to hear that, Marilyn. I'm not much in favor of the programs they put in to bring in invasive predators. They generally cause far more problems than they help. The worst example is the cane toads that were brought in many years ago in Clewiston Fla. to attack a beetle that was threatening the sugar cane crop. The toads couldn't climb the canes to get to the beetles sufficiently, and now the cane toads are becoming a real threat to domestic pets because of the deadly poison that kills pets on contact if they touch/lick the toads. The lady bug infestation in the northeast is another example that backfired. Our species sometimes needs to just let Mother Nature do her thing without our help. (climbing down off the soap box now....lol)

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Ok, this might be a stupid question. But what harm can lady bugs do. I believe I do have a lady bug 'infestation' as I see them all over my garden.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it's not bad unless they get in the house

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Thanks Allison! I would rather have a lady bug infestation than any other beetles or insects. They're good for my roses.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

they are pest eating machines

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

They LOVE aphids

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Love aphids, which love your roses...LADYBUGS are your FRIEND Tex!! LOL

Some people pay for ladybugs to put in their gardens.

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Yeah, I know. That's why I never have aphids on all of my roses. Thanks to my ladybug friends.

I read somewhere if you purchase ladybugs and release it to your garden, they will go back to their original colony.
I;m just thankful they're making my garden their colony.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

here ya go Jen... I have it tagged as Summer Olympics... but mine looks brighter than any in the PF.. so maybe not

Yes, Louise, you're right about predator pests....brought fishers into NH to kill the porcupines, but the fishers like the cats better.
