Crape Myrtle Seeds

Nashville, TN

Can anyone give me a lesson in collecting Crape Myrtle seeds. I have found what I think are seed pods, but not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

After the bloom there will be green pods, they will turn to dark brown that is when they are dry. They still arent ready as I found out first hand.LOL They will begin to crack open then they are ready to harvest. The seeds are flat kinda like agapanthus or yellow bells. Hope this helps you.

I appreciate your help. I have indeed found the dried pods. Some are brown but not beginning to open, and others are opening. I have had crape myrtles for several years, but never paid any attention to seeds until this year when I found the seed forums. Now I'm looking at every plant, flower and shrub for seeds! I'm truly addicted to seed saving. :o)

Also, we have a good entry for Crepe Myrtle (including seeds and propagation) in our plants database at this link: http://davesgarden.com/plants/go/1.html

Thanks so much Dave. I think every question I had was answered in the link you provided. You do such a good job!

Thanks, daisydo, but it's only because the crepe myrtle is my favorite shrub (although the Deutzia scabra is really trying to take over that position) :)
