Great job on the intro, Victor!
Would you all like a descriptive header paragraph?
I think you must amend to include our Canadian pals and anyone from anywhere on Earth as long as it is East of Somewhere.
PA to ME, we have had many from every area of the country
I never said which country.
I read "the" to imply one country that includes all areas between Pa and Me. Picky, and I may be wrong, but I don't want to not include our regular northern pals and any others who might wander in with holding different passport. Patti
Thought the NE of somewhere had that covered. ^_^
Can change 'every area of the country' to 'all over'.
I think that is more inclusive. I do like the tone of your introductions. Patti
How does it look now?
Thanks, Mel.
:o)
How can we be the most unique? That's like being the most pregnant, or more perfect.
No - bad analogy. Unique is not an absolute like pregnant.
I read it as.... not as the most unique...the most genuine and "also" unique
There is definitely nothing unique about being pregnant.
I only meant you're either unique or you're not; it doesn't come in degrees. Similarly, you're either pregnant or you're not. But it IS a bad analogy; these days, you can be a little bit pregnant and there is certainly nothing unique about it, lol! (Can you say "Octomom"? After her, anyone else is only a little bit pregnant!)
You have arrived at the friendliest, most genuine and unique place on DG.
So it's either the friendliest place, the most genuine place and the unique place or the friendliest place, the most genuine place and the most unique place. (It should be A unique place.) I dunno - you can leave it.

Sorry, but you're just wrong, Carrie. 'Unique' DOES come in degrees. It is used all the time in contests, etc. Look it up. Not going to give English lessons. And thanks - I will leave it. Do you have anything better to do??
No."For many grammarians, unique is the paradigmatic absolute term, a shibboleth that distinguishes between those who understand that such a term cannot be modified by an adverb of degree or a comparative adverb and those who do not. These grammarians would say that a thing is either unique or not unique and that it is therefore incorrect to say that something is very unique or more unique than something else. Most of the Usage Panel supports this traditional view. Eighty percent disapprove of the sentence Her designs are quite unique in today's fashions. But as the language of advertising in particular attests, unique is widely used as a synonym for "worthy of being considered in a class by itself, extraordinary," and if so construed it may arguably be modified. In fact, unique appears as a modified adjective in the work of many reputable writers. A travel writer states that "Chicago is no less unique an American city than New York or San Francisco," for example, and the critic Fredric Jameson writes "The great modern writers have all been defined by the invention or production of rather unique styles." Although these examples of the qualification of unique are defensible, writers should be aware that such constructions are liable to incur the censure of some readers."
I think this thread has about run its course. I'm going to lock it to further replies and remove it later this afternoon. The header is up and looks good. I'm sure we could tweak it for weeks, but unless there is some glaring problem with it, I'm going to leave it as is.
If we want to revisit the idea annually, I'll be happy to update it every year.
Thanks for answering my last question.
