So we have moved from our space to this space. Our cover was blown, so we will keep on the move.
Daily Doings
Gosh. Feels like we should be standing in trenchcoats saying things like, "Hey. Wanna buy a watch". Or, "The fat lady sings at midnight". LOL
Very resourceful finding this thread. Now let's see how long we can stay undercover.
Did anyone else find it a wee bit difficult coming up with an idea for a topic? I think it is a bit more challenging when we need to come up with an idea instead of our spontaneous chatting/sharing that took place on the initial long-running Monday. Not complaining though. Everybody is up for the challenge, aren't they?
Apparently Otis wants to be a hairdresser this week. Today, every time I laid down to weed (easier on my back) Otis would get mischievous and jump on my head. He kept licking my face and ears while he rubbed his head and paws all over my head. He had me laughing so hard it was difficult to sternly tell him to stop. He makes this hoo-haw, hoo-haw noise when he is on my head. That had me in stitches. When I made the noise back to him he came running towards me again and was bouncing around like Tigger in Winnie the Pooh. He makes cleaning out the beds fun since he is such a comedian. Can't be down in the dumps for long with him around.
Gonna say night and read a wee bit of my book before I crash. I may never get my gardens cleaned out and free of grass. If only there was a way to keep it out of the beds. It overgrew late last year and I just didn't get it looked after. Now it has gone crazy. Probably by the time I get this bed cleared the first one I did will need culling. Never can say that I am going to get bored though.
Night Matilda???
Hugs and Blessings

Lainey, we don't have to have a topic. It is just fun sometimes to act like children and run away and see if somebody can find us. When our cover is blown here, we will move on.
Saw some good possibilities, under Home Improvement-bathrooms & laundryrooms. hehe.
I am going to put up tomorrow's thread on Coffee...and and think about going to bed too. Have an early appointment, but then will turn my attention to paying bills. Yuk.
too funny. I'm beginning to feel like I'm back in grade school playing tag. lol fun and games!
Lainey, my niece's BF's dog is like that. We met him when we were in Surrey for DB's funeral. My oldest sis went down on her knees to pet him and he just mobbed her. She started laughing and giggling and the more she giggled, the goofier the dog got. He had her down on the floor, full length and no way was he letting her up. Jumping all over her and licking her face and any exposed skin. It was a hoot! A great moment in a sober weekend. We all needed the laughs!
neener neener neener....I'm here. Took me a bit to discover where we were! I just had my usual pbj and then two (yes two) pieces of the apple cake roll. Only three pieces left. Why didn't I just toss it out. The cake is dry, but the frosting is divine! I keep telling myself that I am eating it to keep DH from eating it. LOL
Any excuse will do Sue!! I am so glad that sweets aren't my thing, as I am sure that I wouldn't be able to resist them. I love the salt, but the Dr has told me to lay off, and surprisingly I am doing well with that.
I had a dog once who couldn't stand it if you covered your face, he would try to dig your hands away if you covered your face, or chew on hair if you had hair in the way. It was funny, it was like he didn't think you were there unless he could see your face.
Oh my, I'm part of the in crowd!!! Feels like junior high and I finally made it. giggling insanely!
What cover? And why are we running away?
I am just so clueless...lol
Pardon me, but this thread seems like it should be in one of our chattier forums, unless you're planning to talk about books and movies...
Well, we can surely talk abt books and movies. What book have you read recently? Or movie? Only time I go is with the group home people and they have to be G or PG at the least.
I'm hooked on the Jennifer Chiaverini books. They are all about quilting. I don't quilt, but love to look at them! I've even read a couple of them twice as I forget that I've read them! LOL
How often do we have to discuss books or movies? Is there a quota we have to meet? Any particular kinds of books?
Yesterday we saw Ironman 2. It was just like Iron man one.
Yesterday I finished reading Diane Mott Davidson's Fatally Flaky, which was like all her fun books.
There, I did my duty.
S
I can't help as I have no time or energy to read a book. I fall asleep! Plus I haven't been to the library for about a month!
Waiting to see Avatar. I will have to check and see what is at the drive-in if we don't get rained out!
DH just called on his lunch break. He is bringing home Avatar and Sherlock Holmes! Whoopee! A good movie tonight! He actually called to tease me about how much I was getting done outside today!
what a brat. ha ha I wish I could remember more author's names. I forget waaaay more than I remember. Then someone asks if I like this author and I go , I dunno, don't remember.
I can usually remember the author but not the books, or vice versa, or neither. I've bought the same book more than once. Hate when that happens.
Good Gravy, I finally got an appt with a gastrointestinologist, next Wednesday. Good thing I'm not dying. Maybe by then I will be.
S.
Drat. Okay books.
I am reading,' A Man Named Dave' by Dave Pelzer. It is a third in a trilogy. I didn't read the first two. they were called, 'A Child Named "It"' and , 'The Lost Boy'. I am going to go to the Library and see if I can get the first two but am glad that I read the final one first. Now I know that this child survived and how he lived his life, I can read the abusive past, knowing that he turned out okay.
Just before that I read a book called, ' The Good Mother' written by Sue Miller. It was okay but I was taken back by the crude language she used to refer to the mechanics of being intimate with someone. It didn't fit with the rest of the book.
I read anything I can find that holds my interest. I don't have the budget to read the new books so I pick up anything that I can. I love John Grisham, some Dean Koontz (can only take so much weirdness) and anything that is medical mystery.
There are several fabulous authors that I enjoy but can't think of them right now since the brain is not functioning properly.
Off to Emerg for my eyes since my doctor's office called and canceled my appointment. The doc is sick. Poor guy but pooh. Messes me up big time since he is the only one who can renew my pain meds. Hope he is back tomorrow but I doubt it. He never takes time off for sickness.
DH just got home with the car. i had to wait for him to get back from filling in today for the rural mail route.
Back later, hopefully with good news. Just hate the thought of waiting in Emerg but it might not be that bad.

I moved you to the General Discussion forum. However, if you'd like I can relocate the thread to the Parking Lot, since that's where - I think - these threads usually reside.
Terry, thanks, I think we will be fine here in the General Discussion, as that is what we general end up doing.
Bonnie
Gen Disc. sounds excellent (snickering).
A Boy Called It. Amazing, awful read. And the amazing part is he is a success story. Proves you do not have to blame your upbringing for adult issues. Get over it and get a life.
A Child Named it is causing a controversey in some school system right now because someone thinks it isn't appropriate reading for school children. Not sure where or the ages of the children, but this book was not obscene, nor did it contain XXX rated material. Here, wait, I found it.
http://www.marshall.edu/LIBRARY/bannedbooks/books/childcalledit.asp
I've r.ead all three books...profound. Things like that happen...why hide it
I'm going to write down the other two, I want to read them. If I don't write it down, I won't remember. grrrr
If children can watch music videos with all kinds of shenanigans, and television shows with violence and thievery, how much harm can a book containing a true story do to disrupt their lives. Maybe they would have more empathy for the "underdogs" in their own schools if they read about this kind of abuse.
Still feeling under the weather. Warmed up a tad today and all my lilies seem to be growing by inches every day.
Sheila
Sheila - The banning of that book blows my mind - so to speak.
Now I have to tread lightly because I have only read the final book in the trilogy. I don't want to give much away either if others haven't read the third book. I finished it last night BTW.
David became an inspirational speaker and reached out to children in schools and youth at risk. This was his way of making sense of the abuse he had suffered and letting children know that one must dig deep within themselves, not give up and they can change the cycle by taking responsibility for their own actions. Not making excuses by blaming their behaviour on their bad experiences in life was a huge message. When he started to do the speaking he wouldn't take any money since he felt that he shouldn't profit from his Mother's abuse.
The message the children need to learn is so important. It is a message that could change so many young people's lives.
Sheila - You are so right about the crud that children are subjected to through the media. I just don't understand the banning of the book. Do these teachers in Sussex have blinders on?
BBL when the brain, eyes and fingers are working in sync then I will be back.
Are you sure we shouldn't be on the books forum? We are talking about books? Snort.

Oh not to worry, if we start discussing cacti they'll move us again.
Too funny but how true too! Tee hee
Forgot we are being policed. Gotta follow the rules and be good. That should be easy for all of us. Hope I don't develop Oppositional Defiant Disorder or I am gonna be sitting on the curb all alone.
I will behave. I will behave. I will behave. I will behave. I will behave. I will behave. I will behave. I will behave. I will behave. I will behave. I will behave.
There. Got that our of my system.

Elaine, I hope you got that into your system! LOL
I've never been one to follow the crowd, join groups, agree with the concensus, etc. My DD said I was contrary from the get go, so these kinds of silly restrictions are just pointless in my mind.
People are so hypocritical objecting to language in books when the kids probably hear worse on tv or in their own homes. People are so concerned about what other people think of them, they put up a false goodygoody front, but don't live up to what the pretend to be.
Did anyone see Laura Bush on Larry King?? Dmail me, she said interesting things.
Sheila - Your not one to follow the crowd? What a surprise. Oh my.
The above post was dripping with all in good fun sarcasm.
Running out of here before I get thumped by Sheila

In order not to let this thread die of starvation, what's the best meal you ever had outside of friend's and family dinners?
Oh, Oh, this is an easy one. Several years ago when I went to visit Maria and McCool in Mass., we had dinner with McCool and Mike at a very good steak house. But then the next day, we drove to meet Maria. She met us in Rehoboth, and glad that she did, because I don't think I would have ever found her house. She had made plans to take us to lunch in Providence. We met her daughter and DH, John and Cynthia Lord, and drove into Providence to a really really nice restaurant overlooking a river (name escapes me now) running right through Providence. This was a restaurant with linen, crystal, silver and china. White jacketed waiters. I remember well what I ordered. It was a lobster and crab sandwich, and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I would love to have one right now.
So Maria, if you are reading this, thanks again for that wonderful dining experience.
Best meal I've ever had was at a wedding of all things. It was salmon in puff pastry with sun dried tomatoes. I love salmon and could eat it fixed any way! I actually enjoy most foods....I'm not picky at all.
Maybe I have not had salmon cooked properly, but I have yet to eat any fresh salmon that I actually liked. Seems like it all tastes too fishy. I do use the canned salmon for croquettes, but I am sure that properly prepapred, the fresh would be delicious. So if anybody wants to enlighten my taste buds, I am available.
I just picked up some wild caught salmon that is absolutely delicious. Not fishy at all. I think it need to be really really fresh, not frozen or shipped nearly frozen.
S.
Well, evidently I haven't had any fresh salmon. Every time I have tried it, I thought it was very fishy. I love fish, but a mild tasting kind.
gosh, not sure what I would consider best ever. I absolutely love BBQ ribs, it's my favourite meat, I think. Veggies - cauliflower with white sauce and nutmeg (it's a Dutch thing, nutmeg on gr. beans too yum yum), endive with mashed potatoes, kale with mashed potatoes.... that's all that's coming to mind right now. Obviously I grew up eating quite European, many many veggies.
Laura, that is a novel idea to me, putting nutmeg on cauliflower and greenbeans. I will have to give that a try, while I have fresh cauliflower, and this summer when I have fresh green beans.
Mashed potatoes are good, and can be witnessed by the breadth of my hips. I sometimes put sour cream in them, cheddar cheese, garlic and butter, ranch dressing, and most of all I use evaporated milk.
for cauliflower, first you put the white sauce on top, then sprinkle with nutmeg. Oh, I love it! DMIL always put some bacon in the green beans and I like that too - but they really need the nutmeg. :) Growing up we had the endive (with thin white sauce, not thick like on cauliflower) and then mashed it together with the potatoes and gravy.
Kale was cooked in a big kettle and then mom would add a smoked sausage on top for the last while of cooking. Mash the potatoes, add the kale, slice the sausage, make a circle on your plate, like a round levee, and add the gravy in the center and have fun playing while you eat. ha ha This is called boerkoel(sp?). The youth group still hosts Boerkoel Suppers at church every winter.
Any white sauce or bechamel can be improved with a dash of nutmeg! Yum,
One of the best meals I had was in France. Our friend there took us to a small bistro, which was down several long winding streets, and will never be found again. The upstairs was a long narrow bar, crowded with smoking drinking French folk, and then we went down a small uneven stairway to what had been a wine cellar. It was so dark you couldn't see your feet. We had steak with a mushroom sauce that was out of this world, some kind of potatos, maybe lyonaisse or au gratin, I couldn't tell, and a very small salad. It was melt in your mouth delicious. I'll never have that meal again.
I really wasn't impressed with the other meals I had there, although the hotel put out a magnificent buffet for breakfast (think every fruit that exists, rolls, sweet breads, muffins, ham sausage, bacon, cold cuts, tomatoes, eggs however you would like them, and the wives who had traveled along with their DHs loaded up their bags so that we wouldn't have to buy lunch!).
I've had good meals in the UK which isn't known for haute cuisine...but if you eat where the locals eat, you can get wonderful fish and their desserts are to die for.
Oops, gotta run. Al's in the bird feeder.
