I found 2 of these in seperate rooms of my house within a 2-3 day period. This picture is at an odd angle (it was on the ceiling) but the overall size was a bit larger than a quarter.
Suunto, help. What is this spider ?
This is a jumping spider (family Salticidae) in the genus Phidippus;it looks a lot like Phidippus johnsoni - see http://tinyurl.com/26em63r for images. They are harmless to humans.
The fact it jumps makes it harmful to me. I can only look at a few pictures at a time as I am so afraid of them. Give me snakes but oh my never a spider. *shiver*
Jumping spiders (any spider) can cause heart attack. ewwww
But they have such cute little faces! See http://tinyurl.com/2f43gez for some close-ups...
