crocosmia not sprouting

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I planted some crocomia bulbs but they never came up. I wonder if it is too cool for them? Anyway, I replanted some yesterday. I put them in about 4 to 5 inches deep, in good amended soil. Does anyone know if they are just really slow to come up?

Mine came up really fast. I planted mine 1-2 weeks ago.

I love Crocosmia. I have a few Emily Macenzie variety bought online. BTW, if you are ever looking for a wide variety try Brent and Becky's Bulbs. I just bought a bag of red from Home Depot. Mine came up within a few days. I planted mine 4" deep in well-drained soil. Make sure the soil is well drained, and no critters are getting to the bulbs. Now not all of the bulbs came out, but a majority did. However, I expect that with a HD purchase.

They were finally up Saturday, or at least a few of them. Maybe it will happen, after all. I hope they are not in too much shade.

I was curious about mine too so chacked them and they have started to sprout. Hope I didn't mess them up checking them.

Patience.......bulbs are like fine wine.......they do not start until it's time.

So I should get a glass of wine and sit out by them to wait for them to sprout as I was a tad late in planting them. I may be dead drunk before they come up. Patti

I missed you at the latest sale?? Nothing to your liking in this one?

Just like with most things you plant, unless they come out of the cooler/freezer, they wait until the soil temp is to their liking. So is it's hot chocolate you're drinking, then the bulbs are smart and stay tucked in. If it's wine you're drinking, then ........

Hi bleek
I don't where to view the sale either. I am planting at our new quarters for our museum house, built 1883. In bulbs and the like, I have crocosmias, daffodils, daylilies, Naked Ladies, and red hot pokers. I am also planting some annuals but not many shrubs yet as our landlord is thinking about adding a room onto the building. I do have a nandina, though, and will be putting a bunch of them at the back of the house, which is shady and a bit wet.

It was on our Touch of Nature site and we did sent out an email a week and a half ago. The balance of our "stuff" left this morning to go to the farm and be planted.

Oh I ordered from the "touch of Nature" sale got loads of nice bulbs at a very reasonable price and they all looked really nice.. Trish
