Have you seen this before?

Arcata, CA(Zone 9b)

On a seedling from L. Davidii x L. Tigrinum F2 seeds planted 3-14-07 I noticed a white hair like on the stem. Its only on one of the seedling.

Wow, that's really downy!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

It's obviously one of those naturally hairy lilies...

Zoy! (As my great Aunt Mary would say - I think it's Slovenian thing.)

Very cool. I would love to have those genetics in my garden!

Okay...Maybe it's just me, but is that lily (or any lily) supposed to be that way?

That puppy would have been a goner (using gloves)...Just kinda freaks me out. Please tell me what type it is or what causes it so I don't go there.

Here is an old thread where we talked about hairy armpits on some lilies. Scroll down...

Thanks pard...
I've had some I'd call fuzzy, but thankfully (for me...LOL) never any as web-encased as the pic in question...

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I believe the purpose of the fuzz is to protect certain lilies from late frosts and snow; i.e., it provides insulation and a little space to keep frost or snow off of the surfaces of buds and leaves. As we progress into summer and the fuzz is no longer needed, most of it will "disappear". The fuzz is a good thing for a lily to have.

Checking my records, L. Davidii x L. Tigrinum F2 was purchased from Cascade Bulb & Seed as seeds. In the container there are three (3) plants/stems, only one is hairy. I am happy that its not a disease. I was asking and was ready to destroy the plant if it was going to affect others.
Thanks for the information....
