Interesting moth at my kitchen window. Any ideas?
CLOSED: Moth ID
This appears to be an Isabella tiger moth (Pyrrharctia isabella) - see http://tinyurl.com/256ux8t for an image. This is the adult of the well-known reddish/brown and black 'woolly bear' caterpillar. The taxonomic status of this moth at the family level appears to be changing; I've always known these to be placed in the family Arctiidae, but this now seems to have been sunk to subfamily level (Arctiinae) in the family Erebidae - see http://tinyurl.com/238pmd7
My usual thanks suunto! Also in advance for the ones you are probalbly answering as I type this :-)
