This bug was found in a friend's garden - a LOT of these bugs I should say. She lives in Northern, Indiana. It looks like some sort of fly to me but I cannot seem to find out what KIND of fly. Any help would be appreciated. That is bubble wrap that the flies are on (the small bubble wrap) for size comparison. Thanks ahead of time!
CLOSED: It looks like a fly but what kind
These look like March flies (Diptera: Bibionidae); male and female - see http://tinyurl.com/34yt8v4 for an example. Their larvae primarily are scavengers on decomposing organic matter; the short-lived adults do not appear to feed - see http://tinyurl.com/39pz5d7
You are correct! About 6 people in my office are thankful to you that they can stop their search. Haha - thanks again!
