Bridgewater, ME

Thats right porkpal.Just had one hatch in the tiny incubator wraped it up good and took it out and put it under mamamshe lifted right up and and let me put it under her.Looks like that might be gray

Richmond, TX

Some mama hens are so accommodating!

Bridgewater, ME

Sorry to say it did not make it through the night.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

oh poor baby

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Mom's usually know something is wrong and leave the eggs.. I'm sorry your baby didn't make it. :(

The others are just toooo cute!

(The chipmunk color is called Partridge) My favorite chick color. :)

Bridgewater, ME

Had another hatch in the incubator and let this one get some strength to it and took it out that was a few hours ago and just checked and its running around and eating already,a little gray one.I candled the last three that I had and one I threw away but the other two I`m not sure what to do,they were completly black inside does that mean they are full of chick or what?I didn`t see any air pocket.Should I throw them two?

Conroe, TX

awwww awww awwww, such cute little fur balls. Sorry one didn't make it.

Sometimes when they are completely black the chick has broke through the air pocket but not broken a hole in the shell. It will peep, so if you peep or cluck at it and hear the chick then you know it is good. Sometimes though the egg is just bad. I usually wait on those just in case.

Bridgewater, ME

Had another hatch will let it dry out and I put some egg yolk in for it to eat to get some strength then will put it with the rest of its family.Have two more eggs if no sound by tonight will throw.

Conroe, TX

We had two little hens sitting on two eggs. Once hatched, teeney tiny little baby. The mommas were still on the one egg so we pulled it and candled it. Nothing in it so it went. Now two mommas have one baby.

Bridgewater, ME

The one that hatched is weak, have him under a light, tried putting him in with mama but she would walk off and leave him so I put him in a box with a heat lamp, don`t know if he will make it or not.My granddaughter named it JJ and is praying that it will make it.They were here last night and wanted to see it hatch but had to leave as they had school and had to get to bed, it hatched sometime in the early morning but its not able to stand it falls over.I tried to get it to drink some sugar water and I have some egg yolk in with it.This will be the last time I interfere with the eggs to stressful for me.If mama doesn`t want them then they get tossed.

Conroe, TX

It is stressfull isn't it. We feel so bad for the little ones when all doesn't go well.

Bridgewater, ME

It has a strong will to live, the only way it can stay up is to get in the corner if it tries to stand anywhere else it falls on its back. You can`t see it from this picture but it is tipped back on its heels (if it had heels) it does not have any balance. It still has a strong chirp.I`m not sure what to do,I thought sure when I got up this morning it would be gone,it was gasping for air last night but is not today and the eyes look a lot better, they were buggy yesterday and closed.

It can only hold its head up for a few seconds.

Did it not soak up all the yolk when it hatched? We had one hatch a couple of years ago that didn't soak up all the yolk and it acted pretty much like that. It lived for a few days and then died (not to discourage you, but sometimes it is what is best though it hurts us). Hope this one gets stronger. Poor little baby. keep us posted.

Bridgewater, ME

Yes it soaked it all up.I hope it gets stronger to

Sarge does he have feathered feet? Does his tail curve under in a poof or stand up?
We have a Splash Cochin roo, you get them from Blue Cochins and generally in a hatch of 4 or more chicks you might get one Splash. We hatched out 4 last year and got one Splash, we hatched 5 this year and have one Splash, not sure if it is a roo or hen yet as it's only about a month or so old, but it's looking like a roo.

This picture is of our 1 year old Splash, he is named......Mr Splash.

I did see that picture and commented on it, must be losing my mind LOL. Cute chickie!

Conroe, TX

Probably a Splash Cochin then. Sure is a pretty fellow and sounds like he is enjoying his new home. Cochins are a very gentle breed especially Blue Cochins (Splash comes from Blue). They can be very tame and sweet. We have a Blue Cochin roo as well and he likes to think he is tough, but loves attention.
