Thank you GP for those fantastic shots of the many birds and exotic animals, and the scenery is breath-taken! Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip to the local zoo with others. Oh did you hear the Kookaburra sing? It reminds me very much of our Belted Kingfisher!

Melbourne, FL

Yes I did hear the Kookaburra...and of course thought of Margaret.

PERTH, Australia

What a treat, GP. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you. I love all the photos. That's a great expression on the face of the King Vulture. The Caracara is one impressive bird. I'm glad you heard the Kookaburra laughing (and that you thought of me - but not because of the sound, I hope)

The colourful dove is a Wompoo Fruit-dove, a rainforest bird from Queensland and northern New South Wales.

"Another unknown Australian bird" is a Masked Lapwing, (race miles).

The Corella is a Pink and Grey Galah.

I don't recognize the duck or the little bird in the pic above it.

Thanks for the correction.....hard enough to take the pics, I knew I would never remember all the names. I Australian section was merged with Asia, so some of those birds unknown to you could be from Asia.

That Emu claw looks scary...are they that large? I like the Caracara...they look so cool with what appears to be a toupee. I see you had a good outing at the zoo. I guess it's that time of year. Those Kookaburra are different that's for sure. The zoos are great for seeing birds from across the nation, especially since most can not visit all the different countries.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

That's amazing GP, you did a good job on all the pics. Thanks for sharing those interesting birds with us. The animals collage is also fantastic, and love the scenery.

You are welcome. I did have a good time, although I have very mixed feelings about Zoos in general. I am grateful they are better than the Zoos when I was growing up, but it is still hard to see animals, especially the Cheetahs and Jaguars, being kept in such relatively small enclosures. The Cheetahs spend an awful lot of time pacing around and around, wearing paths in their enclosure. Some animals are better suited to being kept in a Zoo.

Great pics GP! Looks like you had a very good time. What zoo did you visit?

The Macaws are Scarlet Macaws. I wonder if the stork is a Marabou Stork. http://www.google.com/images?client=safari&rls=en&oe=UTF-8&q=marabou+storks&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=QizeS9XJIIP68AaZmL2GCA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBsQsAQwAA

Wow that Vulture Info really makes you want to see an Andean Vulture with how large it is. I love the African Crowned Crane, Crested Caracara and all the others.

Thanks for sharing your trip to the zoo with us.

I'm not sure about that Andean Vulture....at least not flying over my yard....I went to out local zoo, Brevard Zoo. Not a large zoo, I walked the whole thing in about 2 hours, taking pics along the way. The I circled again quickly. Had to go before it got any hotter. As it was, by noon most of the animals were tucked away in the shade or sleeping. Enjoyable way to spend some time. I know I missed some things, so I may visit again in the Fall.

LOL, No I wouldn't want an Andean Vulture coming over the yard either.

Great trip you had GP!! I need to visit the Zoo...its been quite a while.

Wonderful photos!! I enjoyed all of them. Such pretty and different birds. I think that Kookaburra would have been great to see and hear. Your collages are just beautiful too. Thanks for taking us along with you.

One of the main reasons I went was to be able to post pics here. Glad you enjoyed them. You are right on with the Stork, Pelle. Thanks.

This is the first picture I took of the Marabou Stork, and all I could think was "what a depressed looking bird".

Yes, definitely depressed in that one. :-)
