Spider for ID

Blairstown, NJ

I don't know if this picture is good enough for an identification. I found him in my basement - very fast, and every time I got near, he'd pull in his legs and just sit still, looking like a little bead. Not too big, maybe 3/8".

This is a cobweb spider (family Theridiidae) in the genus Steatoda - see http://tinyurl.com/2bwo4l2 for an example. It can give a painful bite, but otherwise is harmless to humans.
