We found this curious guy in our van. He crawled up when I was driving. Of course I bailed out of the car since my 31 years in Oregon has never seen one of these guys. My husband did just travel to Arizona. He also frequents Gerorgia and Louisiana.
My description. He is about 7/8 of an inch. Black with white stripping. At first look we thought he had blue green irredesent eyes, but we think this is his jaw. He is fuzzy or has longer hair on his body. When captured (and I am sorry I do not have a better photo) he was very aggressive.
Any ideas? We would love to know. I took him to the school for a teacher. She was going to try and identify before releasing on her property.
Thanks!
CLOSED: Found in Oregon, This is a new one for us, What kind is it?
This is Phidippus audax, a jumping spider (family Salticidae); it is a common and widespread species - see http://tinyurl.com/5sbz3j
Wow you are amazing. That was him alright. Doesn't look like they are commonly in Oregon. Wonder if he hitch hiked home with my husband.
Thanks so much.
