I was just about to tear out this Stomanthe Sanguinea (Marantacea), when I noticed that it was blooming.

Tropical Garden #72
worked on cleaning the patio and re-arranging everything, forgot to get a shot of my first outside double peach hibiscus dang it. I shop vac'd the elm tree and maple trees seeds out of everything.
had to take everything out of the pond, when I put that tall metal bird and heavy rock in it, i noticed we were losing water, found I had caused a "v" crack. but got it patched and now I have a blue liner in it.
This is the one that bloomed outside.. but this is a winter picture.
I am glad to see pictures of other countrys. It makes me feel like I am on vacation when I see them.., thanks!
Joeswife gorgeous hibiscus
I just got home from work to let the dogs out back and I can t even explain the incredible fragrance. My heaven scent gardenia has a few flowers, the michelia just opened up, the mock orange is full of flower, and two different brunfelsias full of flowers. It is so humid here that the smell of everything is carried all over . I think I am sleeping outside tonight
I would sleep outside too If I were you! I remember when I was younger and had no A/C , lived in an old house with an established fragrant prenniel bed of sweet peas, honey suckles, cherry tree, trellis roses and all that... I slept on the same army cot my MOM saved for me when we lived on the farm and slept outside in the barnyard, as young 9 yr olds loved to do back then. It is nicer outside right now than it is inside here, we won't turn on the A/C until it reaches 90 outside for three consecutive days. thank goodness for ceiling fans. I am so happy that all my tropicals and annuals that don't survive our winter are doing so well. Took some pics, but left the camera at work.. Rita, the red bush sticks that you gave me, two are leafing out. I can't remember their name, but I am so very excited!
Good morning all, looks like things are happy all over from the nice pictures.
Been busy here as usual. Trying to figure out how to dodge the Southern Gardeners death blow when advised yesterday that yes indeed my department will be moving to Chicago along with the rest of the Continental/United headquarters. It's not very tempting to me at all, and will probably lean toward an early buyout/retirement.
I was beginning to wonder why this vine was called a Helicopter vine, because the blooms didn't remind me of the name at all. It became self explanatory when I was watering this morning and saw a change!
Candela, nice shot and beautiful bloom from your dutchmans pipe vine. I like those.
Rita, I think Dave nailed your noid vine and I admit I was wondering myself. I have not forgotten about an I.D for that last Anthurium I posted a picture of and I will let you know when I know.
I received a couple of Alocasia's from Truetropical77 a while back and they are just as beautiful as he said they would be. Thanks!
Variegated wentii.
Hi Everyone, This is so much fun to see what is blooming in your gardens!!
Rj, I am so sorry to hear about your job, but early retirement is not a bad thing, if you do not crave champagne and caviar. There is a nursery next door that can use a experienced gardener.
I did get a helicopter plant, maybe by next year, I will be able to enjoy blooms like yours.
candela, the bromeliads in your picture got my attention. I saw the Blue Tango at a garden center, made a b-line to it only to find that it was $59.99 in a 6" pot. my Dh said put it down and walk away.
My roses have done exceptionally well this spring. The New Dawn Rose is sooo pretty, and the fragrance is very nice. I love Spring!!
This Jasmine (Carnation of India) has a good fragrance as well!
RachelLF, It is a shame Truetropical will not get to see his plants, he let his membership expire. Those are two of my favorite Alocasias, I am not familiar with the Pinellia, but will look it up.
Joeswife, I love all the plants you showed, I collected the Texas native plants when I first came to Texas, and have quite a few growing in my perennial beds. but eventually went back to my roots, Tropicals!!
Blue Barleria (Philippine Violet)
Debra, is that the portora I swapped you? What's to the right?
It is from our swap, and so is the other one to the right from another generous person.. I didn't realize they were so close together..
didn't you send me a duranta? ( also) .. it thrived in the basement nursery, and now it is outside, starting all over again. One part of the very long south fence, which gives shade for all my tropicals..I call this my DG Garden.
Just came in from examining the plumerias I got from you --they're loving the sun and warmth here (in DC) and we expect they'll reward us soon.
Datura also, yes, forget what else. Your ginger is up here as well, and the what-cha-ma-call-it, too.
Thanks again.
Lovely Rita. you just made me realize I have not seen my yellow crinums. Did u overwinter yours?
