Take a walk with me

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Near my home is the Corp of Engineers office and they have a special area where you can walk and see wild flowers and spend some time relaxing. I went there Saturday for a walk. Join me

This is at the start. Look at all the Mayapples!

This is the walkway that the Corp built so you don't harm the wild plants or get your feet muddy.

The Mayapples grow right up there the pathway. Here we can get a good look at them. How wonderful and big the leaves are.

An Ohio Buckeye tree. Here and there we find signs that identify the trees. It would be nice if there were signs that identified some of the other plants in the area.

Lovely place, thanks for the chance to get peaceful exercise. I think that that may be a yellow wood violet. I have them in my garden..just finished bloom..a bit early, but then we have had high 70s', frost advisory, sleet, dry..now lots of rain.
They are a bit smaller bloom than the regular purple one around here.
Love the mayapples, was able to snaffle 4 from a neighbors yard..she was nice enough to invite folks in to strip her yard before it was totally destroyed for the new house.

I found a yellow wood violet growing in my sisters other yard. It is now in a pot on my front porch. Plus I found purple violets that are varigated. Got them in a pot too..
