I,ve changed !

I,ve just changed to aol as my service provider and I,m finding things very ,vey confusing :-{ It seems that I can,t collect my mail from outlook express anymore as they aren,t compatible. I,m in the middle of a couple of trades, and hope that things (mail ) don,t go astaray, or people think that I,m ignoring them I don,t even know if my new address works I,ve changed it on my preference page and tried to send myself an e-,ail but it didn,t work.Could sore kind soul send me a test mail so I know I.m in contact with the rest of the world?I,m tearing my hair out here trying to resolve what I thought would be a good idea, now I,m not so sure !How do you transfer 100,s of e-mail addresses to my new site, and how do I let everyone know I,ve had to change my adress too I,d be so glad of any advice
Hopng someone can point me in the right direction to help sort out this pickle :-{

Sue...why don't you go to Yahoo.com and set up a free email account for yourself. That way, if you change providers, you can still get your mail from your Yahoo email as long as you have an internet connection. http://mail.yahoo.com/

You're right about AOL not being compatible with Outlook Express! Grrrr!...yet another reason I don't like AOL, but that's the least of the reasons...lol Here's Microsoft's explanation for the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q181/4/29.ASP

thanks for the test mail marigold it did get through, yipeee I did something right today :-} I didn,t realist that when you sign on to aol, you have to sign on in your screen name, and I was going in in my hubbys,!
Thanks for the reply marty, I,m not too well up on computers and I wanted a provider that I could have a 24 hour package with, and didn,t even begin to think about wethert it,d work with other things I have on here .Hope it doesn,t affect my on-line banking !Best test that out I suppose. The other one I was looking at was Tiscali, used to be lineone, but I was told aol was good, trouble is there,s so much gumph up on screen that I,m finding it all confusing.

Gumph?...LOL...I guess that translates into junk?...hehe
That's another one of my complaints about AOL...all the junk they make you look at...it sort of gets in your way, many times...when you just want to look at the internet. My sister-in-law uses AOL and the first time I played with it, I just knew I'd hate it!...LOL It's great for people without much internet experience, but if you know exactly what you want to do and where you want to go on the net, then AOL is not for you. However, if a person is just starting out on the internet, it's probably a good thing. There's a saying that goes around about AOL...you know the "You've got mail" sound that plays when you get mail on AOL?...Well, it should really say "You've got JUNK mail"...LOL They like to really push the sales there at AOL. If's there's something that really burns me up, it's junk mail! :)

I've used the internet at work and home for 7 years and several ISP's later I find AOL the better package, it really is just a matter of preference. Incidently, the AOL UK version is a different layout to the US version and in my view has less bumf on the screen. As for junk mail, I rarely get any and its my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts which get full of it, literally. I'm hardly a new or inexperienced with computers and the internet, just someone who prefers a different service to you. I understand that there are many people who dislike AOL (and other packages) and that is their choice, I just thought I'd offer the other opinion.

I think the biggest source of junk mail comes from using your email address in Ebay, for example. People and bots the write to retrieve this info are constanly on the prowl for email addresses. That's why I never put my real email address out in the open.
