It is a saying here that we have two seasons, summer and winter. Monday the night time temperature was 60 degrees and tonight it is going down into the 20's.After hearing a frost warning on our local radio station it was quite a site this evening in my yard with DH running with the wheelbarrel and me running trying to find all my potted plants that I had placed all over the yard.We finally got them all inside and then noticed my two orchid cactus hanging from the Maple tree.Back out we went with the ladder and got them down. Whew!! I think they're all in now.
Got to go out tomorrow and clean the birdbath and put it away in the shed along with the gazing ball and all the lawn decorations.Time to light up the woodstove and bring out the extra blankets.Soon the snow will be falling.Soon it will be time to live up to my name.Where has summer gone? I'm not ready for it to leave yet.
Good bye summer hello winter
I'm with you. I'm NEVER ready for winter. Here in S0. Az, SE of Tucson, we do get a little snow...but it is gone before 10AM...fine by me. It is usually about 10 degrees cooler here than Tucson, and today it has turned pretty cool...too early for it, but I think it may be due to the hurricain off Baha, CA. I call this time of year a "two sweater day". You wear one sweater to the office in the morning, it gets hot and you forget to take it home. The next morning you have to wear a SECOND sweater because you left the other one at work. I know I would love fall in your state! Jo
Jo, Fall is beautiful here. The mountains and hills are covered with reds and yellows and orange.But the winters here are long and hard. My husband lived in Arizona for 10 years before we met. Two years ago we went to Apache Junction and the Superstition Mountain. It was like a different world there. I was amazed by the huge cactus and different plants that grew there.Someday we would love to find a small piece of land or a house and spend the winter in Arizona but come back to NH in the summer. OH well, I can dream can't I?
I know I'm not ready for winter yet! The last two days I've been cutting back my plants. I probably won't be done for another two weeks. My compost heap is getting awful large. When is Spring!
Snowhermit, Yes, it is beautiful here. Sedona is a georgous place ...but very expensive to buy there. We live about 15 miles from Sierra Vista, where Fort Huachuca is located (Home of the Bufflo Sholdiers), and 17 miles from Tombstone (The Town Too Tough To Die). We love to pop over to Tombstone and spend the day. Although we are in the San Pedro valley (still over 3,000 above sea leavel), we are surrounded by mountains...one is 7,600 ft. While we get no real measurable snow in the valley, there will be snow on the mountain tops all winter. Sunsets are Awesome! well, ya'll come on out, hear? Jo
We haven't had frost yet but it is getting close. My Virginia Creeper is bright red. I have also started garden clean up. My horses are starting to grow fuzzy winter coats, the cats are way ahead of them. Guess it's time to take the hummingbird feeders down. We have 4 definite seasons here, there is a nip in the air already and even a bit of dew some mornings. I need to see if any more corn is edible or if it will become horse feed. The winter squash are getting the message to ripen. I always think it is sad to see summer go, but fall leaves are beautiful.
We are having our annual heat wave here. Temps are up for a few weeks. Once the drop, in a day or two the season will be over and the rains should begin. :}
