Thanks to Mother Nature, I have BABY DUCKS..WHOOO HOOOO

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Sorry for the caps but Billy and I are doing the duck dance. I dont know just how many, I saw at least 3 and I counted at least 4 maybe 5 broken eggs, with more eggs still underneath her. She is my duck that has made her nest under the bathtub that I turned upside down and wacked a hole in the end so the ducks could get away from the geese... So seeing them is hard, she is way in the back as far as she can go.. Billy and I got down on the ground to check it out, but were not going to disturb her at this time... I dont have pictures, camera is at work, go figure...

Now I need to read about Baby Duck care, so if anyone knows what I need to do, Please feel free to leave me a post on this thread...

One of our ducks is sitting on eggs now too.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Peep Peep Quack... LOL Hatching is fun, even if the mom does it!! Congrats Roseane! I'm sure the mom will teach them, just provide water and food.. I'm thinking she will know what to do.

Maby Duckmom can chime in..

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

Congrats on the new babies!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

MsJestr just called with a status update.. She has no internet connection due to the storm.. she is okay.. but wanted me to report... 10 BABY DUCKS AND ONE BABY GOOSE!!!

Yeah!!!

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Thanks ZZ... Dont know how long I have connection.... but wanted to update and ask Where is Duck MOM??

Richmond, TX

Wow, a baby goose! I can't wait to see all the newbies.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Update,
I have 2 baby geese, they are green?? and there looks like there may be one under her but it is not moving, I dont think it made it... They are cute and Momma is REALLY pissy. Will post some bad pictures later..

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

They are so cute! I don't blame you for not wanting to go into the pen with a mama goose. I'll be glad when I can get my ducks, but not until next year now :( Need to have a root canal and my 4th crown....yippee skippee.

Richmond, TX

Oh dear now it's a tossup as to which is cutest: chicks, ducklings or goslings (which is a bad name for baby geese as it doesn't sound cute.) And such a proud mama!

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

we can't have geese here, so I'll stick with ducks.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I would like to have a couple more ducks but I don't like geese. They are pretty enough but they got too much attitude to suit me. LOL Sure are cutie patootie babies though. Congrats!

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I know what a goose's attitude feels like too.....got bit/pinched
on the back of knee....OWWWWWIIIIIIEEEEEE!!!

Richmond, TX

I love the fact that geese have such a high opinion of themselves!

Gridley, IL

Jester
Both those goose babies are female if they are pilgrims. The females are an olive color with black bill. The males will have a pink bill and will be much lighter in color uually yellow.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Ok final count on the ducks,(again I think) 18 of them babies.. One was stuck in the chicken wire fencing, and I ran to get wire cutters to cut the wire, I just should keep them in the truck. Got it loose and it took off to its momma.. I had the camera in the truck but be danged if I got more pictures.

Geese, I know of 3 maybe 4 and one is dead under her, but she will NOT let me get close to her, trying to fix the fence the really tried to bite me... and all three of the babies are olive...

Anyone know how much I should ask for the ducks? I can not possibly keep all 18...

Lodi, United States

Wow! I once knew a duck with 28 babies...but she was a wild Mallard and I think she must have "adopted" some of them.

I would love to tell you how adorable your ducklings and goslings are...and how much I would love one...but Haystack is mocking my honest emotions, and I dare not:0)

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

It would have been 19 but one did not make it and she still had 2 eggs in the nest that did not hatch... LOL I know is that there were alot of fuzzy babies this afternoon when she had them out..

(Zone 5b)

Congrats LOL, they're so cute!

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

The pekins were less than $3 each at TCS. Prices may be different way out west. LOL

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

WOW!!! That's a lot of ducklings! Congrats on all the new babies!

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Someone said try 5 bucks a bird, I am going to call the feed stores and find out how much they sold them for...

Catscan I know how your feel, it shines thru on your posts...

North Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Lovely waterfowl! I am here if you need me...

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

I think I saw 5 maybe 6 little geese, all green... Oh and I saw the baby ducks using the paint pan to swim in... It is so cool. I am off tomorrow so I will be getting some pictures...

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Can't wait for the pics. Watch your back with that goose!!

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Got some will post tomorrow...
Oh and that goose, I sold two baby geese, or should say I could have sold 2. I went and got Billy's butterfly net and went to scoop up a baby... Momma turned on me something fierce and when I had a baby in the net attacked the net and broke it then freed her baby...Then I got the new net I bought him, and that did not work. I went to scoop up a duck baby and she attacked me again... Needless to say the guy went home with a free duck and the promise when I can figure out how to get two geese I would call him...

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

um.. maybe help to distract her by appearing to attempt to take a baby from one direction while you scoop one out from the other direction?

Richmond, TX

Drop a muck tub over Ms Goose and sit on it while Billy scoops up the babies?

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

When she attacks you, grab her around the neck and squeeze. LOL

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Grey Tried that, its like she has eyes all over her head and watches all the babies.. ..
Pork you might have an Idea, I have a big laundry basket, but it has holes and well to be honest, I AM NOT SITTING ON THERE...my concern will be when she is let loose, she will go on the rampage
Cajun, LOL She bites hard!! so grabbing her neck is not an option

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Miss J get some fence wire with very tiny holes and make a "U" shape frame.

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

large trash can dropped over her with a very long rope attached to get way way way back before you pull it off? :)

Can you get them when they are all asleep? Idk about geese other than when we tried catching them when we were little... so I'm just assuming they sleep soundly?

{{Miss J can i come watch you try & retrieve the babies? :) it should be entertaining.}}

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

And then do what Wren? I have chicken wire I can bend...
Grey They sleep right next to the momma and when you go out there, she is wide awake just waiting... although the trash can might be an Idea...

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

If you can get close enough to throw a large towel over her maybe you could then snatch the babies!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Just herd her into a corner. You could hold the wire high enough to let the babies out.
