I attended a sweat lodge in WA state this past weekend, and when I went back in to retrieve my towel, a very large, hairy black and dark red spider was on it. I got a good look at it and then released it into a large fern. The area is considered coastal rainforest. I had never seen a spider of this sort before and was not able to get a picture, but did some searching and found the best photos on or linked to your website. I was able to indentify it as one of the Hacklemesh weavers known as Callobius severus. Sounds like a character right out of Hairy Potter. (pardon the pun...)
Callobius severus
Cool. At least your visitor has a name.
