This was on the windowsill here in MA. The yellow head really stood out.
Who's This Guy?
I would like to see a clearer image (preferably a dorsal view) showing the wing pattern and antennal segments more clearly. Superficially, this resembles a sawfly (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae), but the antennae seem to have too many segments.
Rats, I erased a couple other pics I had without realizing it.
What really struck me most was the all black body and yellow spot on the nose.
See http://tinyurl.com/25oaoal for an example of a black tenthredinid...
Unfortunately, this really doesn't help me much; a clear dorsal view showing the wings and antennal segmentation still are needed. Otherwise, it will take someone with more expertise in this group than I have to come up with a specific i.d.
Thanks for trying suunto. :) Hopefully I'll get better pics in the future.
