bottom heat

Utica, NY(Zone 4b)

I've taken my domes and baggies off.... now that i have sprouts---should i feed them and give bottom heat to move them along? I dont have enough lights to keep all of my sprouts under lights =(

I don't think they need bottom heat once they have sprouted. Most plants grow at cooler temps than the seeds sprouted.

Definitely no bottom heat--without enough lights for all of them they're going to have a tendency to get leggy anyway, and bottom heat will just make that worse. As far as fertilizing, I wait until they at least have their first set of true leaves, and then feed them at 1/4 strength.

i didn't plan ahead... i used old seeds and didnt think they would all sprout and most of them did... seeds were from 06 so they wern't that old ..... a few still havn't sprouted and it's been 2 weeks so is it safe to say they won't? and reuse the peatpots? or shout i wait?

For the seeds that haven't sprouted, do you have others of the same type that have sprouted? If the others of the same type germinated within a few days then most likely ones that haven't come up yet won't. But if they're seeds from a different type of plant some things do take longer to germinate than others so I wouldn't give up yet.

no, it is the whole row that has not sprouted of the same seed....I am excite tho...the seeds i collected from my flowers have sprouted !!! YAY!! First time for that!! YAY again! I had more purple cone flower seeds than i knew what to do with,,the neighbor let me take him dead heads. many just got sprinkled where I'd like them to grow

Looking at this years results, I would say no bottom heat if the ambient temperature is warm - it gets too warm. Bottom heat works better in a cool location.
And no bottom heat for longer than a week - it will do what it is going to do before then.
And last but not least - getting back to the original question - no bottom heat after the seedlings sprout.
