Spousal Unit wants to put a small gazebo on the patio. I like the looks of twig gazebos but they look like a lot of slow detail work. However, I'd like to show him a picture of what I'm talking about. This Papowawa has been so slow, especially the geometic design with the colored concrete, that he may not go for the twig gazebo unless he falls in love with it. Any suggestions?
Source for Twig Gazebo designs?
I have never seen one but it sounds real interesting.
I've been wanting to do the same thing! The only information or pictures I've been able to find on the net is one pic on an individual's homepage http://www.valhallaherbs.com/VisitUs.htm If I find any more info, I'll let you know. Would you do the same? Thanks!
wingnut, sorry I am so slow in replying; I was at a historic preservation conference for 4 days. I'll let you know if I find anything else.
Sis, NO ONE had heard of a papowawa, lol
Don't EVEN worry about it, Woodspirit! Did that link help you at all? The one I have in mind for my backyard is a bit more closed in at top and maybe not quite so big.
I too have been thinking of this. Would we have to spray it though so it wont rot so fast? What would we use, polyurethane? I dunno.
Kelly, I was thinking of using cedar, a native (around here) wood that doesn't rot so fast. I think you could use marine varnish to keep whatever wood in great shape (marine varnish is that stuff they use in boats and on boat docks).
Wingnut, it helped some, but he wants a roof on it. He has now decided that the roof of the gazebo would hide the view of the pond and patio too much, so he going to build a HALF of one!!! LOL, who knows what this will look like....
Thanks Wingnut.....EXCELLENT idea!!
WOW this is a great idea!! I bet I could do it if I really set my mind to it! ( have you seen my twig bed~made of cedar? it's on my homepage here.) Actually I think if you get the general idea of the shape, then once you start gathering twigs...you will find that you can't make an exact copy of it. Because, all twigs are different and you will make it look the way you want it to look, which will be soo different than any other you have ever seen. Even though I have worked with "twigs" before, I wouldn't be able to make an exact copy of any of my projects. I say get all your "twigs" gathered and then let the pieces fit where they may. It's alot of fun and once you make something that you are proud of...you will continue making more!!
But now all of this is just my .02cents!
Mollybee
Mollybee!!! That bed is just simply GORGEOUS!!!!!! What did you "tie" the twigs together with? Amazingly gorgeous!! I want one!!!!!
Y'all have to go take a look!
Wingnut, This was one of the easiest thing's I have ever done! The secret is, Pre-drill each hole before screwing it together. After I got it all screwed together, I went back with "jute" rope and wound it around each one of the places that it came together. you really should try this!
Glad you like it!
