My neighbor was a big gardener. He lived in a small cutsie wootsie house below the street level. He did a lot of rockwork and plants. I need to get back to the old house and ask to see the way they developed the woodland (or cut it all down)
Holy Grass clippings Batman, its only April.
Yeah, Katie, that would be fun! Nobody I know is into gardening like I am... We could meet at the cafe in Molbaks, haven't tried anything there before, but it would be convenient if you know what I mean....... haha, I'm bad ;)
Wannabe-mama duck was on her nest again when I got home today. I wonder if she's going to lay eggs even yet... seems kind of odd she would tend an empty nest for so long... If she had eggs and they were all taken somehow, I would think she would try to nest elsewhere.... Also, her partner had a male buddy show up and they were hanging out together in the pond having a grand ol' time... and I had read that the males were defensive, territorial types... Hmm.. guess our mallards are "go with the flow" kind of ducks... ;)
COFFEE? WHERE? WHEN?
oops - sorry about the caps - I'm thirsty!
To be sure, the area has changed radically over the past 25 years.
Novelty Hill doesn't look the same, neither does Woodinville, for that matter.
At least the area immediate to my place has retained some of the old flavour.
Kur - you don't know "bad": we march in lockstep toward the ultimate goal of plant enabling and the like.
Now looking for shrubs, which is very dangerous territory for my wallet.
Okay. . . I'll bite. How about Saturday morning? We could meet in Woodinville at the Starbucks across from Molbaks or on Avondale and then head to Flower World . . .
Can't make it this Saturday.... :( I promised my sister-in-law we'd make her raised veggie gardens this weekend. She's unable to work on them herself as she can't do any heavy lifting and I've just been trying to get a handle on her weeding before this... She was obviously bad in a previous life because she has buttercup and horsetail going crazy inbetween the most beautiful collection of old azaelas and rhodies I've seen in a long time... I'm hoping to propagate some of them...
But I can arrange to be free the next Saturday, or the one after, it's far enough in advance... :)
Also, my work schedule is pretty flexible, I might be able to do it on a weekday with advance notice as well.... We could avoid Molback-weekend madness that way, hahaa
I saw a gorgeous use of horsetail in a courtyard in Portland - it was contained in a raised rectangular planter near a water feature and make a very dramatic statement. I don't have any on our property (that I'm aware of) so would hesitate to introduce it even in a controlled manner, but it was pretty.
I'm so grateful I don't have the horsetail here. I saw a similar presentation, BH, on a garden tour. The gardener had put it in a small space completely surrounded by their concrete driveway. The concrete was cracked on one side, though, and I wondered whether it was the horsetail that had done the cracking. LOL Time will tell.
Coffee: we'll do it sometime, Kur. I can't do the next Saturday - I think I may be out of town for Mother's Day. Good for you to help your SIL. I'm going to be tackling and burning the big pile of slash I have sitting in the yard - made my pit a couple of weekends ago. I hope I can get through that pile and a couple of others in a day . . .
