I hear you, and I'm sure you're right....I also have h. pubicalyx cv."dark purple" that looks like Red Buttons, Chimera, RHP, etc. etc. etc....still, there's always a part of me that wants to "tidy' things up...plus, it would be kind of neat if "Jungle Garden", that seems to have gotten pretty scarce, at least here in the U.S., had actually re-appeared as "Violet Red"....
April Color
And...another thing is that H. pubicalyx 'Chimera' can either be RHP or 'Red Buttons'. The sugars in the corolla seem to be volitile within the flower, and in the heat they move at times, especially if the temp is high where the flower is...the color seems to be tied to the sugars... I have seen it happen in both of my cultivars. That is one name I think was a big stretch!!!
Wow Christine---how did you get an eriostemma to flower in Ontario? I'm impressed...seriously, how were you growing it? Thanks...
Shelley
Thanks Shelly. It sits in a south-facing window so gets lots of direct sun, I've put a little lime in the pot, and it gets a weekly drenching. I use msu fertilizer extremely dilute, all the time. And it quite likes to be misted.
It actually has several peduncles right now that keep budding up and blasting before they're an inch long; I did't hold out much hope for these - but there's two open today!
Thanks Christine---and a big congratulations...your care regime sounds almost exactly like mine, except for the south facing window part ( I don't have one)...so I guess I'll leave those eriostemmas to you and people lucky enough to have greenhouses or live in the south... :-(
