Stakes

What do you all use to stake up your lilies????

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Last 2 years I have staked my lilies.I left the stakes in the ground to mark where lilies were. I found not many lilies need staking I use green stakes from HD. as well as the short and tall stakes with a loop at the top.
All these can be bought at Lowes,Walmart,Home Depot. I ordered some from this guy but they are expensive.

I use big thick bamboo stakes for my tall ones. They are relatively inexpensive and hold up very well.

I mwill have really tall lilies this summer. First year for Sherasaahd and Black Beauty.I will probably have to use stakes.

Scheherezade has never needed staking here. Nice strong stems, even with all of that height.

They don't need stakes here either.

Good to know as its a pieroette and a spread to get to them so I was going to set stakes now before other plants expand.

Bamboo stakes and tomato tape.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Most of my lilies need staking because they don't get enough sun and/or they're planted close to a stockade fence. I use bamboo stakes too; usually stick them in place when I plant the bulbs and leave them there year-round. With some of the big ones, like Scheherezade, I tie them to the trellis on the fence behind them. Scheherezade is incredibly sturdy, even in the shade, but when they start leaning to the sun I do try to nudge them upright.

Rebar makes very strong stakes that you can hammer into the ground. It turns a rust color which doesn't look too bad in the garden. If you wanted to get fancy you could glue a metal ball or other decoration on the top. I use them and also the green ones from Home Depot and bamboo.
