gardenpom: Wow, that's a really nice shot of the Dove on the branch! And, of course I love the pic's of the Cardinal's ... beautiful shots, love the one of the pair together.

Melbourne, FL

Thanks, lin. Here's the Painted Bunting. Pardon the messy trunk he is sitting on. I was tired of cutting back dead stuff that day. In fact, the huge Jatropha trunk fell straight down right on my sandal-clad foot. I'm still limping:)

gardenpom, that's done it! I'm packing to move to Fla. lol. Jatropha trunk that big? First I would move to see all the wonderful birds. Second, so I can grow Jatropha that's so big. What zone are you in 10? Missed all those tropical beauties. Love, love that beautiful Bunting! And the dove is so fine, the subtle beauty just shines on that photo.

(Zone 1)

That is beautiful!

oops, sorry about the tree trunk falling on your foot, and that looks to be a pretty good sized chunk you cut off of that Jatropha! Will it re-sprout or is it one you are trying to get rid of? I bet you have a nasty bruise, but hopefully you didn't break any bones in your foot/ankle. A few weeks ago I was moving some heavy potted plants outside from the pool deck while I cleaned ... used my husband's new handtruck thing. I was trying to tip a heavy pot up on the dolly to move it out and stuck my foot in the middle of the back to help tip it ... well, there's a sign there that says "push" and that's just where I pushed. LOL, that was to unlatch it to make it fall into a flat rolling cart ... needless to say, the metal part fell onto my ankle and I had a nice bruise for awhile! I'm usually outside barefoot and my husband is always telling me I should have shoes on my feet. I had shoes on that day and it didn't help any.

Melbourne, FL

Lily, that was my oldest Jatropha, and was around 20 feet tall. They do have new growth, but way down low on the trunk. I always thought I was in zone 9, but because I am near the coast, it is called zone 10. That did not help much this past winter, though.

(Zone 1)

I don't understand the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Maps. I'm in Daytona Beach which lists us the same as Melbourne (9b). Melbourne is 1 1/2 hours south of me and has a much milder climate, usually 5-8º warmer in winter and they can grow some plants there that wouldn't survive winter here.

Makes no sense to me either.

Got a good shot of a Brown Thrasher a little while ago. He came to the pipe for a drink.

I LOVE the Brown Thrashers, but have not seen one in about ten years.

Nice shot Lin! They are a handsome bird!

Very nice shots GP and Lin!

Take Care of your foot GP!

Thanks Pelle. I love the Thrashers.

Met, thanks for starting us off with such breathtaking photos.

I've been outside in the garden all afternoon and wanted to sayI loved everyone's pictures. GP, hope your foot heals quickly.

While my DH and I were having lunch our first (for this year) Hooded Oriole showed up, not at the oriole feeder, but the hummers'. He just looked at us about 6 ft. away and kept drinking.

He must have traveled quite a distance because he just kept drinking longer than usual.

Methodical, fabulous start. I'm hoping to see some redheaded woodpeckers this weekend.
Nanny, congrats on the thrashers!
Linth, wow, love those pileated woodpeckers.
GP, that Painted Bunting is so gorgeous!
Gazer, what a cool pic! I tried to get one of a house finch yesterday. It was pitiful!
I am running late. I've really enjoyed everyone's pics so far. Crazy jealous of the Vermillion Flycatchers!

This Hooded Warbler came by just as I was stepping out the back door. I was sure I was going to finally get a good pic, but my little girl dog decided to investigate the source of my attention and scared it away.

While I was trying to get a pic of the Hooded Warbler, this Cedar Waxwing came down and plopped on a branch in front of me. It was hard to know where to point my camera!

Beautiful shots Met and thanks for the new thread....just gorgeous.

I'm taking a break from working outside all day (actually all week) and am really enjoying all the pics you all have posted. Hope to contribute a few if I ever get them processed! Thanks for sharing all your birds!!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

We cross posted Elphaba...and I can see your dilema about where to point your camera...both are awesome birds!! Lucky you!

Marlton, NJ

Nice ones Lin! Love the Painted Bunting and The Mockingbird.

Duc, Thats a gorgeous Oriole!

Oh Elphaba, that Hooded Warbler is so beautiful!

(Zone 1)

duc: Beautiful Hooded Oriole ... such gorgeous color!

Elphaba: I think that's a great shot of the Hooded Warbler, he is one handsome bird! Nice shot of the Waxwing too! The Cedar Waxwings seem to stay high in the trees when they come through this area.

The Red-bellied's stopped by again this afternoon.

Wonderful pics Lin!!!

Thanks Pelle, I get halfway decent ones sometimes. I told my husband I wish I had studied photography because I enjoy watching and attempting to take pictures of birds. Some of y'all are really phenomenal photographer's!

A male Northern Cardinal stops for brief break from chasing one another, to pose for me. lol.

Wow, that Hooded Warbler is out of this world! so many nice birds, so little time.

Sorry folks, wrong thread. That doesn't belong here. Please pardon. See Lin you're not alone. lol. But we do have quite a few nice pictures made along the way. Cheer.

Mandeville, LA(Zone 8b)

Today was an incredibly beautiful day. It was a great bird day too. First, I had a pair of these little critters land on my feeder while I was no more than three feet away. Boy, they just chattered away at each other. I'm thinking Brown-Headed Nuthatch. Cute little birds.

I think it is safe to say that the Dark-eyed Juncos are all gone now. I have not seen any for several days now. This photo was taken on the April 1.

Next I spotted this little guy, which I believe is a Yellow Rumped Warbler, which would be a first for me.
