I do believe this was a Corn snake. I do find them at times but mostly the Texas Rat. Both will eat eggs and I usually fine them at sundown, when I go out to check my peafowl eggs. I set my peafowl eggs under Phoenix hens and have found many a snake. I am not afraid of them but it does give you the willies when you first stick you hand in and find something extra. I live around lots of dairies and just take them to some of my neighbors barns where they will do some good. They usually run in pairs, so after I find one I am on the lookout. I have only killed one, I had no choice. He had swallowed three peafowl eggs and they were all very special to me. The were mostly Java blood which is quiet rare. I retrieved the eggs and they all hatched.
The snake in the picture had swallowed several eggs but they were not fertile so he got to take a trip to one of the dairies. You can see the bulge, just above the flashlight.
And so the it begins!
Cool!
LOL Haystack...
I have ridden up on a few snakes, and just kept riding. When I first moved in here, I came in to clean and was going to the laundry room and saw this snake coming out the wall. I freaked and called my brother and he asked what kind it was I said H*&^$ if I know it looks like a paint horse.. He about fell over laughing. He said it was a good snake pick it up and put it outside... Needless to say a broom works good, got it outside.. It can live out there, just not in the house.. So I patched up the wall and been lucky sense.
kenboy, that's gotta be a bull or gopher snake of some sort, isn't it? Beautiful! It's about the size of my northern pine snake I have here at home.
No this is the Texas Rat snake. This is a very good snake in this part of the country. The plagues of Europe were spread by flees on rats. I hate rats. I also love spiders because they eat the two insects I hate the most, flies and mosquitoes. What I am saying here is snakes are our friends.
Good grief Ken!!! Thats a big snake!! It doesn't seem to mind being handled but I wouldn't want a bite from something that big :{
That's quite a picture there Ken.
Have you shared pictures of your peafowl lately? If not, I hope you'll share a few.
Did anyone hear me scream today? ZZ? Did you hear? I found a snake.. nearly stepped on it. Going to go hunt up & see what kinda it was. Had the prettiest teal colored belly.. well what I could see as I danced over it & ran away.
I saw a big female garter snake a few days ago. Saw her twice. I'm glad she's here if she doesn't bother my chicks.
i "think" this was an Eastern Garter snake.... but it sure scared the snot out of me. I'd be happiest if he stayed in the grass... off the walking trail... & out of my sight so i don't end up dancing around & screaming. I will not be venturing into high grass anytime soon. He was quite pretty tho. bright tealish colored belly. yellow stripes. black & red checkers down his sides.
