cross pollination question

(Cathy), MO

Does anyone know if lilies cross pollinate?? My son wants to plant several varieties together and is worrying about crossing them. I didn't THINK they do, but wanted to check with you guys. Does anyone know if they stay true to variety??

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Is he worried because he wants to cross them, or doesn't want them to cross?
Lilies will not come true from seed. You may get seedlings but your original lily bulbs will remain.

The best way to avoid anything going to seed is to deadhead after bloom.

He doesn't want them to cross. Is wanting to put several varieties in the same bed. Like red with yellow etc. And wanted to make sure the colors wouldn't cross and turn all red etc.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

The lilies will come up each year, the same as the bulb that was planted. Though they may increase (the bulbs) in number, they will not change in appearance. He is safe interplanting them.

Thanks for the help guys! I will let him know.
