Daily Photos Vol. #305

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

While looking at these birds soaring above the sky not too far from us (hubby and I), they finally landed on the river bank then I realized they were some kind of Vultures. I've seen both Turkeys vultures and Black Vultures in our area.

Pelle, those Brown Headed Nuthatches; they're way too adorable! I've a pair that frequently visit. I named them "Chick-peas" I've a good feeling they're nesting some where nearby.

Nan, I too would love to see your Pileated WP and the Yellow Sapsucker (two species I have never photographed before). The male Northern Cardinal with the grape in its beak is just way, way too loveable.

Elphaba Some fantastic shots of Cedar Waxwings. On the one with the House Sparrow, I've this to say. "What's high society and the bag lady" about the pic. (Urgh bag-man, if the sparrow happen to be a male -- lol).

Adel, any bird visiting Frank's creek is a pretty bird. lol. A very charming setting.

Red, Thank for sharing pics. at Uvalde County trip, I sure will enjoy it again and again. The Greater Road Runner is a hoot, love it! And how handsome is the Hooded Oriole.

Mrs_Ed. Your Standing Tall Hermit Thrush seems to be so in-tune with whatever he was doing. lol The female Cardinal with the straws in her beak is lovely.

Rose, the pair of Turkey Vultures, nice clear capture!

Rose, I forgot about your Swallows, yesterday I saw several Swallows at close up, and how in the world can we differentiate among all of them? LOL. I love just to sit and watch them swooping around the water surfaces and open area.

Wonderful photos everyone!! This thread is so fast, I feel like I've been gone a week.

My DH and I took a walk around a park at the north end of our lake and this pair of Mallards looked like they were talking to each other about this lady with the funny looking black thingie (my camera) following them.

We can still see snow on the higher mountain tops. It sure doesn't feel like "sunny California" here!

Beautiful Goldfinch, Rose. I wish they were that color during the winters. Such cheerful birds with that bright yellow.

Great pic's everyone!

adelbertcat: Lovely Brewer's Blackbird, kinda reminds me of the Grackle. Love the little Quail!

Reddirttree: Beautiful Roadrunner and that Hooded Oriole is so colorful, it must be a joy seeing that one!

Mrs_Ed: That little Song Sparrow perched in the fence is adorable! I love the pic's of the female Cardinal with her nesting material. Cardinals are so common here but I have never seen one gathering nesting material! How cool! Love the Thrushes. I took shots of one this afternoon and I'm not sure if it's a Thrush or a Brown Thrasher ... the Thrasher has a longer bill but I have trouble sometimes with them.

dellRose: Great shot of the Turkey Vultures, really nice to see the close up and detail! Gosh, I think I want to move to the country and have a barn so I can have Barn Swallows! I am really loving the pic's of those beauties! Aaah, and lovely Goldfinches, I missed not having them stop by this year.

duc: Great shot of the Mallard couple, and oh my goodness I love the shot of the one taking flight! Thanks too for that gorgeous photo of the mountain! Really beautiful scene!

Pelle: Thanks for that link. Wow, that is a passel of Gannets!! They are such beautiful birds.

I took the camera out to the backyard about 5:30 this evening and got a few pic's. I'm not sure if this one is a Brown Thrasher or a Thrush of some sort. Anyone?

I know the Brown Thrasher has a longer bill than the Thrush but I can't decide which one this is.

I've gotten so I fill this pipe every day when I fill the birdbaths. Soon after I filled it this evening a pair of Red-bellied WP's stopped by for a drink.

Brown Thrasher for me, plantladylin.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Great pics. everyone. Lin, I think that maybe a Brown Thrasher. Here I've a couple that are working as a team finding nesting material together. Duc, love all your birds from out Ca. Where you're; you've the best of both worlds. The riverview and the distance snowy mountains!

These are wonderful pictures. I enjoyed them so much. A great way to relax. Here is a new visitor to my backyard. Could not figure out why the hog corn was always gone--blamed it on tree rats! Then, I saw this Mallard. He is wearing a leg band.

Thank's y'all ... I will mark it Brown Thrasher!

GrannyG: Wow, that is a great picture, beautiful Mallard!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

oh, such a cutie Granny! I'm surprised that he's banded since there are so many Mallards around. I'll have to pay attention to the ones here.

Love all the brown thrashers. They are funny like the robins, to watch flip leaves up in the air.

(Zone 1)

I love watching the Thrashers rustling through and flipping leaves too! Occasionally they will eat from the feeders but most often they feed on the ground.

This one was rustling leaves under some Azalea's in the side yard:

Great shots everyone! It's so fun to come here and see all the happenings in your yards.

Methodical will be starting the new thread soon.

Mandeville, LA(Zone 8b)

I was sitting on my porch late this afternoon, when a bird flew in my direction and his/her underside flashed golden in the sunlight. I jumped up for my bird book and camera, and caught this shot of a pair of Northern Flickers, newcomers to my yard. Male Flicker is in leaves to right.
