Learning to play the piano

Has anyone ever self-taught themselves to play the piano? I know off the wall question, but here's some background. I have been given the chance for a Free piano, one of those come and get its or we are going to set it out for the trash. There is nothing wrong with it. I don't know how to play it though and would hate to just leave it sitting in the corner gathering dust.

Go get it! NOW! I'm self-taught...and perhaps you would like to one day here the story...(someone once said it would make a good movie! Or part of one anyway). Got get it...there are many books you can learn from ...and easy songs to get your fingers limbered up with. I recommend Boogie Woogie! Now, get off the puter...got get piano!

Any good books to help me learn. I'm going to make the call that I want it and arrange to pick it up.
