Lily Garden Order List

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

I have been thinking on this quite some time. Here is my order list that I just faxed off to the lily Garden-

Tet Flugelhorn Trumpet Collection
Avonlea
Bali Hai
Caravan
Dimention
Elise
Eurydice
Giraffe
High Stakes (6)
Karen North
King David
LIberty HYde Bailey
Montego Bay
Pizazz
Razzle Dazzle
Red Velvet
Rosepoint Lace
Sumatra
Topsail
Wassail

Most of these I ordered three of, some I ordered one of. First I choose the spots they were going and then ordered the best amount for that place, one or three bulbs. The exception was the collection and then the 6 bulbs of High Stakes were I needed afew more bulbs.

Nice selection!

I agree! Great list, Rita! I am also eager to see "Pizazz" - I bought that one from LG as well...

I just can't wait until I see these lilies blooming in my own yard. Between the ones I bought from Lily Garden and Brent and Beckies last year, andf now this order, I should have a really great summer show.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Hurray, my LIly Garden order came today in the mail. I thought it might. There are two boxes. One box has the Tet Flugelhorn Trumpet Collection of 12 bulbs and a bonus of three really big Silk Road bulbs. Wow. I am going to have to take a picture of these before planting. I haven't unpacked so I don't know if I got any extra bulbs on the trumpet collection but I peeked and they look great.

I will report on the other bulbs that I will unpack. I guess I will start on planting them this afternoon if I have time. I just have to post now because I got all happy because of getting my order!

Sounds like a great order Rita, I know how exciting it is to open an order. Now you have me excited as I just placed an order of seven varieties with The Lily Garden today so keeping my fingers crossed that my order arrives in about 10 days. Last year I bought a lot of lilies thru the various co-op's here on Dave's garden but I just had to add some more from the LG this year they have such beauties I couldn't resist....Betty

I am happy about all the new lilies. I did not buy as heavily from The Lily Gasrden Last year, althought I did buy. The bulbs were just fablastic. Last year I ordered lots from Brent and Beckies and also B&D. Not going to order lilies from those two this year. Not that they were not good, they were really nice quality. Just that I got what I wanted from them already.

So very heavy on The Lily Garden Order this spring. I see when I unpacked that they were already sold out of the HIGH STAKES, bummer. Also KING DAVID an absolutely striking yellow speckled lily. Oh well, I guess I should have gotten my act together sooner. Will just have to get them next spring. Or maybe if they have them this fall.

I got a later start on the bulb planting as I was cleaning out all my ponds first. I put the filter and pump in the big stocktank pond and stated running that. The water was the dirtiest I have ever had it but I just scooped all the leaves and junk that fell in overwinter as best I could and started the pump and filter. I had bought a new filter the other day so I could do this. Tomorrow I will change the filter again as it should have sucked up much of the mess by then. I do so love that biggest pond I put in afew Falls ago. Another one of my projects but it's one of my favorites.

I planted the three large SILK ROAD bonus bulbs they sent me. I took a picture before I planted them and will post went I get a chance. I am going out now to plant the 12 bulbs of the Flugelhorn Trumpet Collection .

So those twelve Flugelhorn Trumpets are planted. I quit for today. Will plant more lilies tomorrow.

I have been a busy bee planting my lilies. The happy part is that I had plenty of room for them. In fact I could plant more, I still have room.

There are lots of extras. On the bags that had small bulbs, and I mean really small by Lily Garden standards, there were 5-7 bulbs each instead of the three that I ordered. So those should clump up fast. But I don't think those particular types make big bulbs anyway.

Now I have to go dig up three rose bushes so that I can plant the rest of the lily bulbs in the spot the three were. One is deffinately getting transplanted, probably two. The third gets tosssed.

This would be at the very back of my front yard rose garden that I call Floribundaville. I already have quite afew lilies planted along just alittle further in there. I want to increase the lily section as I love the way it looks with the roses in front and the lilies in back. The fact that its on an uphill slope makes it all come together and easy to see if your standing on the sidewalk.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

I am done. I finished planting all those lilies. I dug up the roses but just plunked them in my sideyard small pond so the roots would stay wet and the roses wouldn't wilt. Then I went and finished planting the lilies. I really didn't want to leave the lily bulbs to go do something else so this is how I decided to do it.

Still need to go back out and water.

Here are the Silk Road Bulbs I got as bunus bulbs on this order. They were nice and large. I just had to take a picture before I planted them.

I'm in the process of putting in new lily (first lily bed!) and another rose bed. Got most of my lillies from Buggy sales in Nov., some from a recent co-op.

Question: How do the roses do with the lilies? I've loved the roses/lily border combinations I've seen but am a little leery about crowding them so closely since it is so humid here in the summer. NYRita, do you have them in seperated areas or planted with each other. We are close in zone so I'm guessing you have humid summers also?

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

I have lilies in my rose beds. I have them planted between the roses and around the roses. They come up between the roses and in back of the roses. Yes, it is hot and humid here on Long Island in July and especially in August.

Hi everyone, I'm just now learning and getting a real desire to grow lilies but I don't know where to start. Would anyone be willing to list the best prices for spider, daylilies, aztecs and I forgot the names of the other kinds, for websites that sell them? Is there a site that sells all the different kinds of lilies, from what i have come across, I think there all different? Thanks

Good to know Rita. My 'traditional', i.e. family rose background is all abut no crowding cuz of black spot....Trying to change my mindset regarding beds LOL.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, the advice for roses is no crowding because they will get blackspot. But they get blackspot anyway unless they are sprayed with a fungicide. So the advice is useless. My roses are planted close together.

Bluesky- I think you want the daylily forum. If yopu want to look at Lilies do go see The LIly Garden.

Ok, thank you

How do your lilies from Brent and Becky's look? I've been a bit gunshy of them. I know everyone raves about their bulbs, but I ordered some aliums and other fall bulbs from them a couple of years ago and they were pretty awful. Only one of five aliums came up, that sort of thing. Hopefully that was just a bad batch but it's put me off ordering there.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

My lily bulbs from Brent and Beckies last year were wonderful. All growing strong this year. The only reason I did not order lilies from Brent and Beckies again this year was the fact that they didn't have any more of the varieties I wanted.

sells all the different types of flowers you asked about.

They are all different, though they have "lily" in their name, but Easy To Grow carries them all. I've ordered tons of stuff from them.
You'll find the Aztec lily under "sprekelia" on their site. Their price is about the same as you'll pay elsewhere. I purchased one bulb out of curiosity from B & D at the Northwest Flower show and wish I'd gotten a bunch. What a cool flower!

That's really good to know. Thanks so much. After much agonizing, I did place an order with B&D this week. I ordered Candy Club, My Precious and Triumphator. Can't wait to see those in bloom.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Hart, I think you will love "Candy Ckub" - one of my favorites. Mine bloomed really nicely last year with huge fragrant flowers and I can see already is going to be much larger this year.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have been ordering from B&D for over ten years. When they sent catalogues with their daughter in the garden as a cover.
I only had 1 bad experience with them which they bent over backwards to fix. Great people.
You wont be disapointed.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Thanks, Steve. Candy Club sure looks pretty and I'm a big fan of huge and fragrant. :>)

I just fell in love with the photo of My Precious on the B&D site. And I planned on at least getting a bunch of Truimphators in the lily coop but I missed coop by a hair. I didn't think I was going to have time to do any planting this spring and the first thing I did when I found out I would was rush to the lily coop. I was in the process of deciding what lilies I wanted when they closed out the coop early.

There are a still couple I'd like to get from B&B, so it's good to know my previous experience was a fluke.

Anyway, sorry for hijacking your thread, Rita. I have been enjoying following everyone's new lilies threads.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

No problem, we are still talking about lilies and vendors so its pretty much on topic anyway. Topics here often wander all over the place and no one minds.
