Gas Plant - dictamus

Weyburn, SK

Hello All; Does anyone know how to start gas plant from seed. I have tried many ways but just can't get them to grow.
I will have plenty seeds next summer but haven't saved any this year as they wouldn't grow for me. Thanks for any info EVa

Some plants exhibit a double dormancy. This is what it says on Tom Clothiers seed germination database.

Dictamnus albus , Sow at 18-22ºC (64-71ºF) for 2-4 wks, move to -6 to -7ºC (19-21ºF) for 4-6 wks, move to 5-12ºC (41-53ºF) for germination Short viable

If you think about it ...this is what the seeds would go through if they fell off the plant and re-seeded themselves naturally. They need a period of warmth, followed by a period of cold freezing temps, and then followed by a period of cool temps. You can try to simulate the fluctuating temps using your refrigerator and freezer or you could sow them in a flat and place them outdoors in a protected area.

I plan to try some dictamnus seeds myself this year ~ If I succeed I'll post my results.

Thanks Poppysue!
I think there are some seeds still on the plant. Maybe I could count that as the cold period. What do ou think? It is a beautiful plant and very hardy so I would sure like to propagate it. Eva
