ok, I feed the squirrels to help keep them out of my bird feeders and I bought them a bag of corn cobs the other day. Mind you, these are full size cobs with dried corn on them, they have a little weight to them. Well, I would put out two or three ears at a time and I would go inside for a bit and come out and the whole darned thing would be gone! I thought maybe my little neighbor boy was playing tricks on me. So last night before I went to bed, I put out two large ears. When I woke up this morning, I looked out my bedroom window and they were still there. I decided to lay in bed and watch the birds come in for the morning feed(my bed is right against the window)because my girls hadn't gotten up yet. So I am laying there watching the finches and doves when something catches my eye next to the corn. This little gray squirrel was looking over the ears of corn, then he grabs a whole ear in his mouth and I am thinking "what in the heck is he planning on doing with that??!" He lifts his head wwwaaayyy up over his back and starts hopping, yes, that's right, hopping away with that ear of corn that probably weighed half of what he did! It was so funny and cute because a couple of times he almost fell over and he dropped the ear a time or two. Who says you can't find good entertainment in your own back yard!
Bossy
Missing: Ears of Corn!
LOL! that is too cute! I get a mental picture of that plot unfolding! Thanks for the smile!
HAH! Now I must admit squirrels are my most favorite animal but they can be entertaining to watch! My neighbor has some sort of squirrel feeder where to stick an ear of corn on a large upright nail and there is a "seat" for the squirrel to sit on. It is hilarious to watch cuz them squirrels actually place their butts in that seat (with back legs hanging down in front of them) and eat the corn...like they are sitting at a table!
I have 2 squirrel feeders like the ones that Horseshoe mentioned and they are so cute when they "sit at the table to eat". The chipmunks can't seem to sit the same way so they stand on their back legs and wrap their little arms around it and eat. When the bluejays come in to "steal" a bite or two, boy the sounds of all of them fighting over the corn is really neat. The squirrels always win but it is really great to watch. My 2 yr old doesn't say squirrel, so he calls them Billy's. Add his squeal of delight to see them carrying on and you just have to smile and look up and say thank you!
Well unless the little fella is dragging them up a tree somewhere you may find your flowerbeds turned into a corn field come spring! If he buried it whole you will have the closest "rows" of corn you ever did see! LOL!
Zany-
Now that you mention it, I have notice some up turned soil in my flower bed, hhhhmmmm.......
