Ornithogalum hispidulum

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

I currently have Ornithogalum hispidulum (a relative of the Pregnant Onion) in 6 2" pots in a window with a desk lamp to raise the temp 10 to 12 hours a day. My soil is seed grade potting soil, saturated but not standing in water. It's been a week with nothing happening.

I am wondering if there are those that would share some experiences or direct me to some better advice, If only to recommend more suitable species for the beginner, succulent only.

O. hispidum is from winter rainfall areas of South Africa. These "Cape bulb" species germinate best in fall when temps are cool. If you are going to sprout them now, take away the heat, cool nights with slightly warmer days are what they experience in nature and what usually works best. Since you are in WA, I presume the summers are cool in your area, so if the seeds come up you might be able to keep them growing (in hot areas they would want to go dormant) till fall when their natural growth cycle should begin.
There are ornithogalums from summer rainfall areas, they normally germinate in spring--O. saundersoniae is one of them.
Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. I thought it would be easy to find info, and was beginning to wonder if I should quit growing from seed.

I set them out in my mini greenhouse which has cold nights and warm days. I found them sprouted there but fallen over. I moved them to artificial lights inside and they are little teeny grass blades growing strong.
