Best Seed Sources

Provo, UT

Hello all
I've always loved gardening but always bought plants from the nurseries. I'm starting to get into the seed starting thing now that I'm a poor married student. I heard that Burpee seeds are really good but what have you found to be the best place to get seeds (in general or for specific plants) I'm mostly interested in edibles like vegetables and herbs.

I apologize if there's another forum that answers this. Just send me a link there if there is. I couldn't find one.

It all depends on if you are looking for specific varieties or something not so common. My favorite is Stokes Seeds (carries many commercial varieties and most seed is treated), I also order from Jungs, Jonnies Select Seed, Vesseys and others. Burpee seeds are just fine as well. I choose a seed company on three things (in no particular order) 1. Seed varieties offered, 2. Completeness of offerings (can I get all or most of my seed from them), and 3. Customer Service (includes both cost and speed of shipping).

I would highly recommend you visit the Garden Watchdog before you make final decision on a company to see what others experience has been with each company.

I have been VERY impressed with Johnnys selected seeds. I have had some of the best results from their recommended varieties. A little more expensive but worth it.
On the flip side, I ordered from Pinetree seeds also this year and they have many varieties at a low price, dont know yet how the results will be.....
Territorial Seeds--I get their catalog seems very interesting and they are a west coast company... Good Luck!!!!

Summerhill seeds, Crossman's seeds ($.69 to $.99 mostly) are great. They sell the old standards but send many, many seeds in a packet. Right now i probably have about 100 total Delphinium Bellamosum and Pacific Giants seedlings just ready to get their first leaves. The company is about 100 years
old, the prices are great, and the service is very, very fast.

Le Jardin de Gourmet (Artistic Seeds) has sample packets for $.35 and $1.00.
Flowers, Vegetables, and herbs (lots) It's so much fun to buy there! Get a whole collection of tomatoes for under $3!
