Been looking at catalogs. (1). Does anyone know what classification Madame Butterfly (P.A.F.) falls under? Are there any others in this class that are sold?

(2). L. speciosum album and rubrum. I have read these are Orientals. Is this correct? Are there others in this class that are sold?

Thanks

I keep all the labels when I get lilies. Two of them that I purchased locally from a nursery states they are L. speciosum. We all know that sometimes companies place the wrong label on their packages. Both of these bloomed last year and are true to photo's on label. Scarlet Delight and Nepalense. Scarlet Delight looks like it might be, but Nepalense looks more like a trumpet. Any suggestions....

Well, I'll take a stab at it, though I hope someone with more knowledge will come along ~

I believe Madame Butterfly is an Aurelian (trumpet x henryi) putting it in Division 6. See half-way down the page for a couple others. http://www.lilynook.mb.ca/Catalog/Trumpets.html

Do you have any pics of the others? Here is some info on Nepalense http://www.heronswood.com/perennials_perennials-i-to-l_lilium/lilium-nepalense/

There are two Madame Butterflies (unfortunately). If it is the pink colored trumpet-like one, it is in Division 8 Interdivisional.

Here is a photo from my garden of the one Moby is talking about:

The Madame Butterfly I am asking about is listed in B&D Catalog (30th Anniv. issue 1978-2008) page 5, it has (P.A.F.) after its name. It looks white with yellow/orange.

L. Speciosum album is white. Page 15 in 2009 B&D Catalog.

Nepalense bloomed in my yard (see photo)

The PAF is how I figured that was the one you were asking about ~

Nice job on the nepalense!

Thanks, Cathy. It is one of my favorites!

What does the P.A.F. stand for?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

In this case, I believe it's "Patent Applied For"

Thanks a lot

Nepalense is quite variable. Yours does look like it.

Usually it is PPAF - Plant Patent Applied for. I don't know if they just left a P out or if it means anything different.

My order from B&D Lilies arrived today. You can really tell the difference in bulb quality and size. Huge, huge bulbs.
I wish I took photos before I planted them. Included was Madame Butterfly.

Here's the rest: (Photos are from their site for reference and DO NOT BELONG TO ME)

Also got the doubles from their 'fancy frill' collection:

Tex, those doubles are gorgeous. I didn't realize I had doubles until they bloomed last year. They were fata morgana and elodie, and I added a few this year.

I am assuming the frills are orientals. Make sure you post them when they bloom.

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Yes the frills are orientals. And if you order more than $50 you can get an additional 2 Distant Drum at $1.99 each.

Elodie, I believe is an asiatic. I tried to order that from the recent lily co-op but the vendor ran out of stock before the co-op ended so it was dropped. Still ended up with 157 bulbs ordered (guess got carried away). Total was $136, way less than a $1 per bulb. They will ship it in about a week or so. My back is hurting already just thinking of planting them. LOL! I have to give some as gifts I guess to friends and my back door neighbor who gave me a lot of asiatics last year.

nice selection Tex
