i just called my daughter and told her to get me iris in some other colors (i have all purple and white)--the ones you describe sound beautiful!
I Rescued These Iris Clumps Today
I took some colored embrodiery thread close to the color of each one and tied it to the stalk of the bloom and pulled it down as far as I could so when I go to divide them Ill know what color I have.. Ill be happy to give you some next spring at the RU if you get down to this area..
well that might get me down there!! you are kind to offer--
i went back and looked at my post and forgot to mention i am asking my daughter to get them for me for my upcoming birthday and mothers day--sounded so demanding the way i posted
i love your smart idea of tying the string to remember the color!
our local round up is right around the corner--next weekend!
when they are clumped together like that I was afraid I wouldnt remember which was which..
oh yeah.. mothers day is coming up soon.. I was a florist for 30 yrs and it was the worst holiday, even worse than Valentines day cause while not everyone has a sweetie they do have a mom.. sometimes more than one...lol..Id put 16 hr days on my feet sometimes working till 3 am to get everything out in time.. Im so glad those days are over..lol.
have fun... I had a blast at the gulf coast one a couple of weeks ago..
lol - "want more colors". Don't we all, honey, don't we all...
Those really do look fabulous!
oh don't we wish they bloomed all summer like you said mary!
but at least they look good when they are not in bloom --some plants look sad and bad when not in bloom
I am really enjoying my iris'.. you're right.. I wished they had a longer season. A friend of mine told me of a place in Argyle ( Denton TX) called Argyle Acres which is the iris "capital" in the area!! hahaha.. they have fields of iris & you can buy rhizomes..they also have an area where they grow new types.. I am going to have to check it out!!
