Need Help Identifying These

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

#1-Part of a mix I planted last year, but I don't remember this flowering. It's a nice little cluster.

Here's another view. I know it has at least one other plant growing among it, and I have no idea what that is either. LOL

I'm never going to plant a mix of seeds again!

I can not tell about the first one but the second one is Engelman's Daisy, or Cutleaf daisy.
A native perennial;

Oh cool! I've found a few of the Engelman's Daisies is that flower bed. What fun! Guess I'll have to wait for the first one to bloom to see what it is!

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

you have so much knowlege Josphine.. I admire you so much...

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Blkraven2, you are so sweet to say that, but actually I just know a good portion of Texas native plants because I am so crazy about them.
But ask me about exotics, and I don't know nutting Honey!!! Still I like to help wherever I can.

when I was working as a floral designer ..it was all automatic... since Im not out much and not working any longer I can look at something and say I know I know that but then cant remember... I have to go look it up...lol..I can still design with the best of them but remembering names of stuff is a lot harder..(S)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Okay, folks...are we sure this is a Sweet William? Just making sure before I tag it!

yeppers it is and a pretty color too!!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh good! I've got some of that, too, and was wondering what was going to flower out...

stephanietx, when you say "before I tag it", are you literally putting out tags for all these things? Or just noting them in some journal or database somewhere?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have metal EON markers that I'm going to use this year.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I have metal tags I bought through a co-op. I like them, but after one season, the paint pens that came with them fade or wash off and you can't read it. The tags last forever, but the writing washes off, so might as well not have the tag.:(

Stephanie, do the markers you use last? Are they written on or etched (indented) type?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have waterproof labels that I use. I print the name of the plant on it, then place it on the marker. Then I shellac over it.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Ah ha! Shellac may be the key. My markers are supposed to be waterproof, but it's not working. I'll try shellac.....now if I can only remember the names of some of this stuff :)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Just do like I do and post pics! LOL

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

I put a coat of clear (Spary or brushed on) over the labels on the tags. My DH tried to get the labels off some tags from plants I had lost over winter. He even used the grinder on them. He gave up ~ opting to re-paint, instead. So far I have no fading, either.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

That's what it is ! Clear coat!

Dallas, TX

I am bringing my Eon markers to roundup to give away. There is one label that wont fade, but you have to ask what that is. I started buying the new ones in color where you dont need a label and you use those Elmers painters pen. I am just waiting for someone to come along with a COOL handwriting to do them for me. ... somebody like BlkRaven . hint ... hint ... LOL

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I wonder if a paint pen would fade?

Dallas, TX

No it wont fade its actual paint, Blue Eyes told me about. I had it before I bought the new flags. ... please dont ask why I got this color green ... they were so new they didn't have a color chart out yet ... so I guessed. :(

I have some purple & yellow ones. LOL

Dallas, TX

Purple Flags? How cool! I love purple! I wonder if I can return them? They told me I could exchange them but its been a year now.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

But the green ones blend into your hostas I bet Sylvia.

I tried the markers, but everything fades so far. I did use the Bro P-Touch on some and they lasted but yellowed very badly. Love the rocks Blkraven painted....may try that next if the clear acrylic doesn't work on the tags.

Sheila, have you tried using clear P-touch labels? They don't yellow like the white ones do. (Or, if they do, I sure can't see it.) I like them because, now that Eon has colored markers, I have color-coded certain types of plants (blue for hostas, red for daylilies, etc.). White labels hide more of the marker, and it doesn't stand out as much. I did have to hunt for the clear labels, but Office Depot carries them, and you can order them online as well.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We had some of the clear, but the copper tags I was putting them on, just couldn't read them. I would love to try those color ones maybe later on. Sounds like it would work. I have lost so many names that I had originally had that I don't know if I need bother with it. I have pictures of most and may have names to go with them on the file.

Back to the subject....... Stephanie has the flower in the first picture started to bloom yet?

LOL Sheila! Acutally, it has and it's stunning! I sure hope it seeds so I can collect them and spread the plant around.

What is the fine leafed plant growing up in your sweet william? BTW I am amazed that sweet william does well in TX heat I remember it growing all over west virginia where summer temps are pretty low and water isn't an issue.

I had seen where you posted the pic of SW the first time but didn't realize it was the plant in question at the top of the thread. Really nice color.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Cheryl, it's a plains coreopsis. These both came out of the same wildflower mix last year.

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Ack! There's a huge dandelion weed in that picture!! LOL

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Stephanie, your plants are all beautiful and healthy.

Arlington, TX

I might try a wildflower mix next year. Is there one specifically for the southwest?
C

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Ah ha! Glad I didnt start that thread... Stephanie is on her toes!
I know I've seen this foliage, but I can't place what it is... Which one of you wonderful people brought this, or knows it's name...

My DH Kevin won this as a door prize.

It is a peony of some type. I didn't bring it but recognize it. Wonder what color it is?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Debnes....Stephanie started this one long ago...
May a new one with a title that reflects the N TX RU May 2nd in it....please.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, it is a peony I brought it and don't know what color, someone gave it to me at one of the swaps to find out what it was, and when i found out i decided to pass it along.
Josephine.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Cheryl, I have some seeds leftover if you want them. It's a low growing mix from Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg. I actually have a couple of different mixes from them. I can either mail the seeds to you or give them to you in the fall at the RU.
