Hi everyone. I'm trying to help my parents identify this bee from their garden.
Last year my father put up a house for orchard mason bees. They hatched and emerged, but quickly disappeared. This weekend, however, the house was getting a LOT of action again. Some of the bees coming and going were blue/black iridescent but most of them had a gold/red tinge. The gold ones look like red mason bees to me, but it sounds like those aren't really present in the United States.
Here is a picture my mother took. Help?

This does not look like any Osmia native to the US, but there are some other Megachilidae with a similar color pattern; see http://tinyurl.com/ycl2vox for an example.
