Hmmm, maybe I'll grow a few bush beans in it as well.
So far, so good....
Please keep us know how you like/dislike TSK.
Wow! That is a poly blossom, wonder what kind of tomato it will produce, if pollinated.

Yeah, I really hope it gets pollinated. Biggest one I've seen on my plants. I had a few last year but they dropped without getting pollinated.
Get out your little artist's brush!
Get out your little artist's brush!
You're right, I should give it a helping hand.
Would that be the same as a fused-bloom?
Please make me a CDB-shaped Paul Robeson? Thank you =).
Is that the mega bloom I've been reading about that produces the 6 lb or larger tomato???????

Yup, that it be! Have 2 more fused blossoms too(Pruden's Purple & Danko). I get them from time to time especially early in the season. Rarely do they form for me.
HA! So now I'm a tomato geneticist? lol I'll cross them both ways and hope for the best. Now I have to find some blossom bags at some point. Wish they weren't so "foo-foo" looking. :)

Yup, that's what people who want to grow monster tomatoes look for. 6 pounder? Shoot, I wouldn't know what to do with a 3 pounder. I'd have to take a long vacation from work and babysit that sucker lol Like I said, those mega blossoms rarely set for me. It would be interesting though, since that one above is on a very large yellow beefsteak(unnamed or unknown variety). My friend's family has been growing it for years in Tennessee.
Ray: Cut the rest of the blooms and all but two stems off that plant and get ready to tie down that 6 lb monster. LOL

Funny you mention that Joy. While waiting in line at the nursery I got suckered into an impulse buy. A did a quick skim through and threw it in my cart because it looked like a fun read with some nice pics. Turned out to be a really good book. http://www.amazon.com/dp/0975515314/?tag=hashemian-20
Doing a little experimenting. I noticed the whiteflies are back and just getting started on my peppers. GRRRRR! Hoping reflective mulching does the trick. Heard it works pretty well. I bought some mylar and ran it through my shredder. Also have started making EB mylar covers.
Wow, suddenly "Staying Alive" started playing on my head. LOL
I was thinking Bootsy Collins :)
Ray: That's the book I bought and it's all about the monster tomatoes, the record is 7.5 lbs I believe. I just want some good healthy tomatoes myself. LOL But, it does look like in some of your pics you are well on the way to the monster tomato, way to go. I'm cheering for you buddy, go get first prize!

Joy, I bet Mark can definitely grow tomatoes bigger than that. He has cats on deck guarding his EarthBoxes. No squirrel situation for him.
Moonglow: I just hope my birds are searching like I am for the frass trails, I've been out there twice this morning just checking leaves for the horned catepillar and any monsters that might try lurking under the leaves. It's been thunderstorming off and on and will for another day or so; but that seems to be the time they come out.

Ray_der_phan am new to this thread... saw your TSK (what does this stand for?) and really liked the box and particularly liked the support for the tomatoes. Was looking for something for my 88 year old mother to grow a tomato plant and this looks to be the ticket. Where did you get them? Thanks

Hi, I got the TSK(Tomato Success Kit) as a gift from "Moonglow". She's been raving about it forever and I'm really digging the design myself. Wide box(good for tomato roots and won't get blown over), the cage is really sturdy too. Here's the link where she gets them from.... http://www.gardeners.com/Organic-Tomato-Success-Kit/38-580RS,default,pd.html
There's also this one. $5 cheaper http://www.gardeners.com/Tomato-Success-Kits/PotsPlanters_SelfWateringPlanters,38-659RS,default,cp.html
Thanks... I had been googling it and could not find anything that look like your pot. Many thank you!!!
one more question... did you get the standard cage or did you get it with the extension section?

I haven't gotten the extension but I might at some point. Either that or I'll just let it droop over the cage when they get big. The cage will have no problem holding them.
Hi, Nini, welcome and I hope you hang out with us often. The Tomato Success Kit is wonderful. I initially bought one for my mom who is retired, then one for my sister who never gardened before. Alhough it may not be inexpensive, the kit has everything you need to grow a pair of tomatoes in a season, and it's pretty well made (and sturdy).
I didn't buy the extension cages, letting the vines droop over the deck. I may get a few though.
Free Shipping Code (I just tried today and it works): XNET8028
(I also have EarthBoxes, and now only using them for eggplants and peppers).

Well, I ordered one and broke down and got the extended cage. Am on my way tomorrow to my mothers do give her her mother's day gift early... Set this up with a great indeterminate tomato Sun Sugar that I started from seed and to get the other earth box I got her last year going again with a pepper and an Eggplant. Cannot wait to see how it all turns out. And thanks again for all the info....
Nice looking blooms Ray.

Ray, what tomato has that kind of bloom? It looks massive compared to my little things. Kinda cool.

That is from one of my Pruden's Purple. They are full of large blooms. Never thought about it, but they are larger than most of the other blooms. Them, Danko and Anna Russian are in a race to give me the first tomatoes (from this planting).
My money's on Danko.
Thought I would update this thread with some pics. It's been awhile. It's only been an OK season so far. Weather just hasn't been cooperating. It's been cool, windy and wet for too long. Been battling Gray Mold on a few plants as well, making some not as full and lush as they should be. On top of that, our water's pH has been really high. So I've been taking a more hydroponic approach to my self-watering boxes.
