Body embellisments??

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

The guy in the picture? First thought....."Give me a big as* magnet!" Hee hee he

All 3 daughters have at least one tattoo, one had 3? or 4 in all. One daughter has her nipple pierced, I don't ask so I don't know.
Our friend who is an ex-marine/biker dude has LOTS of tattoos and piercings......some i'll never see. Thank goodness for small miracles.
Also, 4 out of 6 brothers have tattoo's too, but I do not. I almost got a Pixie once.......but the tattoo place was closed when I finally got up the nerve. so I took it as a sign.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yes that would be a sign

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nipple is bad enough. They also do downtown! Can't believe that.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yikes!!!!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

OUCH!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

My brother once had a patient with a huge goiter from a swollen gland - they determined that it was mostly ink. He'd had a big tattoo on his arm 50 years before and as it "leaked" his body didn't know what to do with the "stuff".

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

no way.. really???

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - gross!!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

That's what he said . . . I don't know if it was just a bad tattoo or if that happens very often.

I guess inks can migrate to other parts of the body:

I have 3 tattoos and 3 piercings. Plan on getting more of both. The tattoos I have thought long and hard about what and where as they are stuck with me. The piercings on the other hand can come out when needed. I see tattoos as an art form and when I see someone with lots I always stop and admire them, especially tribal tattoos. All 3 of mine are tribal, and those planned for the future are as well. My piercings, am very sure some of you will disagree, but I don't think I look right without them. Both can become an addiction, but when done with some thought can turn out looking wonderful. I myself would never go to the extremes that the guy at the top has, doesn't look good at all.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

The inks that were used a few decades ago, I believe had mercury in them, or had other metals in them that was thought to let the inks "stick" not "bleed" and create something (can't remember exactly the term is) that leaves pale blemished within the tattoo...I keep thinking that it's called a "holiday," but I'm not sure at all. I believe within the past 10-15 years, maybe a little earlier metals were stopped in the inking process...or what is considered conventional tattoo inks.

I plan on getting more tats, the piercings I'm done with. I had my ears "gauged," at one point I could fit quarters easily into the "gauge." My septum, and "labret" were pierced...everything else, off topic and won't discuss here...lol. They were, as Victor so delicately said, "down south."

I, officially, have not had any piercings in over 5 years now. My ears, I took the "plugs" out about 8 years ago, and they still haven't closed up all the way. The only way for me to really "close" them is to have the ligated (sp?) or to have an incision placed in each lobe and sutured. I'll deal with a "dimple" in each ear lobe.

Tattoos & piercings are about defiance, style, and a longing for community for some. It's Art for Art's Sake for others...

Still others (like your picture there) are aggressive displays that welcome your revulsion & shock. That's largely the point. That guy just took Guernica and applied it to his body.

Body modification has been practised as long as humans have been around. And like nearly everything else in the modern age, technology has enabled it to go about as far as it can go.

Remember: hip replacements, pacemakers, permanent hair removal, (or even plugs, LOL), boob jobs, etc., are Body Mods too...!

Millerstown, PA(Zone 6b)

I never really liked the ear gauging, although it has grown on me a little. I don't think it looks right thou when they gauge them to large. I myself will never have this done. I have my labret and my eyebrow done twice. Had all 3 out for several yrs but just didn't feel right so I put them back in.

A guy I work with told me he had back surgery awhile back and the doctor told him if he had had any tattoos on his back in the area he needed the surgery they wouldn't have been able to do it. I haven't looked into this at all, but have rethought getting anymore on my back along my spine.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

to each his own - hip replacements and pacemakers are not real examples - hair plugs look ridiculous and once the shirt comes off boob jobs are kinda gross.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like hair plugs on boob jobs.

Tuck the chin, pull up the eyes and dont forget about the cheek implants. Oh and a nose job. When you hit 70 they all have to sag or be redone.

Grunt, grunt.

Don't quite see a pacemaker as a rebellion, unless you're rebelling against dying.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Whenever I see someone with their nose pierced I point and start to say "oh you have something on .....oh, oh never mind" It always looks like they have something on their nose that doesn't belong there.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The thought of 'residue' after blowing your nose or sneezing grosses me out.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Funny story...sort of...The day I had my septum pierced, it was at a local tattoo convention, I was driving home with my best friend at the time...and my allergies started to kick in. I sneezed, and it was one of the sneezes that start from your toes and just build like a giant allergy-tsunami...well, sneeze and sneeze I did...then I took a tissue and just grabbed at my nose to blow my nose...

Stars...lots and lots of STARS...then...my best friend pulled over to see if I was ok...

I blacked out...he happened to have some smelling salts (didn't ask) and got me to come back to...all in all I was out for about 20 seconds...give or take. The pain though...holy henna.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh no! Ouch!!!!!!!!!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hee hee

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

OMG

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Could have been worse, depending on what area was pierced.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I have a few of those "areas" stories, but I won't discuss them here...I think a few people would be offended, and admin would definitely mind...lol.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i think we have learned enough on this thread:) - what is the next topic victor?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

don't need the TMI Thom... some things are best left unsaid

:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ok I am thread hijacking.... Thom just wanted to tell you .. your dahlia tubers are looking good so far.. think the basement is better storage than the garage... thanks!!

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

NP...I picked up a couple at Lowe's. I found a gift card that I completely forgot about. Picked up a few packs of lily bulbs, 2 different peony, and a few Dahlias. Although I did say I would never plant them again...I just don't like the ruts they leave after you dig some of them up...I do have about a 40'x10' space on the other side of the hedge row at the bottom of my property that does nothing but grow weeds and is a nesting spot for Punx. Phil...so I may just plant a whole bunch of dahlia tubers back there and see what happens. I'm going to try and use that reverse tomato cage method of staking them!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Thank you for hijackng this thread Allison! (lol!)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

your welcome!!.. let me know how the tom cages work.. would be easy to cut them to height too

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)
