Some of us in So. CA are interested in having a group get together for small/medium sized projects on a rotating basis. We would do some work at one of the member's homes, then have a mini-potluck, snacks, or something to wind down.Nothing too big, or maybe one phase of a project that is too big to do alone, that kind of thing.
If you are interested, let me know and I will get a list going here.

Work day project
I'm glad I can't see this thread!! COPD gets me out of a lot of work...but if I were there I could set up the pot luck table. Jo
You betcha, Jo! And we'd always need a cheerleader! I've got my own limits, but that's the good thing about working together.
I will be there in a minute. Well 6 hours. Just give me a two week notice so I can get my ducks in order.
Wish I lived closer----I've been doing monthly "Women's Work Day" projects with a couple of my friends for several years. We've landscaped, pruned, tiled, painted, concreted, assembled furniture, bounced ideas off each other, learned new skills, and had great fun. It's really nice to pull up in front of my friend's house and know I had a hand in making it look so beautiful.
Come summer, I may need some help in the iris garden. We need to dig and divide the front half and put in new drip lines. I could even wait til October...anyone interested? We could have a shindig there like we did a couple of years ago. It would be more appreciated than you know! And free irises for anyone! (have I tempted anyone??!!??)
Louise, you know I've been offering to help you for awhile now....just ask and I'll be there.
I know Donna! I just hate to bug people but since this thread started, I feel a little better. Ok, so I have 1 helper!
Louise, I'd be glad to help :-)
karen
Sounds fun to me, especially since I know you have shade in the garden. Would your koi care if we join them? I may not be the most capable, but I am willing.
Ima - I have heard of work days like you and your friends have, covering all sorts of tasks. What is the phrase? Many hands make light work?
Lynda, that's not the Iris garden that weegy's talking about. That one is her home and the REAL Iris garden is very much in the sun at her mom's property. She'll have to tell you what town it's in.
Donna
Oh fine. Lure us in, then open the trap door.
lol
Yep, kinda like a barn-raising. For us, one of the best parts is it forces us to stop dithering. I would never have gotten my fountain basin tiled without my friend, as I would have just kept on fooling around with design ideas. I left for 10 minutes to bring more tiles, and when I came back she had it all laid out and it was PERFECT. On the other hand, she would never have gotten her front yard landscaped without me, as she would just have kept looking up plants, and deciding where to put them. We've found it's always much easier to work on someone else's project!!!
Yea, Karen! Thank you.
Lynda, you can come hang out with us!
I'm up for it. Just let me know where and when. I also have (or have access to) pretty much any landscaping tool we might need.
Ima - great looking fountain. The fountain itself and the tile design/work. Does the power for the pump come from underneath? I don't see any wires.
Weegy - wow. Do you guys raise the iris to sell? Is that her whole back yard? What town is that in?
DP - good idea to bring up the tools. No good if we all show up with only our bodies.
This is my mom's property where I grew up. It's in Chino. I think the whole area is about 50' by 100' but don't quote me. The area is off to the side of my mom's property. All I know is that I have about 450 irises planted!
Yesterday we replaced the soaker hoses to the daylilies with drip...much better. The front slope now has sprinklers. All that needs to be done this late summer or fall is replace the soaker hoses with the drip on the first half and digging and dividing if needed. We'll finish up the dayliles today and then I'll be in watering heaven!
Thanks everyone for offering to help. I really, really appreciate it!
Thanks, QG---yes the pump's power comes from underneath. DH cut a channel in the concrete, laid conduit from the garage wall to the hole in the base of the fountain, and filled the channel with patch. The concrete's been tiled over with Saltillo since that photo was taken.
I'm in, Louise!
Maybe we should start a calendar on Google so we can plot things out?
Can I put you all on the list at the top? We don't all have to show up at each one, but we don't want to have people who will both give and take help. And it doesn't all have to be heavy manual labor - we can have support people, too.
I know I saw you mention on the other thread that these would be medium sized jobs and hope this one isn't too big. If so, no problem, Tony and I can always do it but it does go faster with more bodies.
Thanks Kathleen! You can put me down and yes, people can just come and hang out and be our cheering section.
Weegy, I figure things can always be broken down into steps - just didn't want anyone thinking we were planning on taking on huge projects!
This won't be HUGE! With a good amount of workers, it won't be too bad.
Thanks again.
Got my Pom-Poms. Kidding aside, I can help, even if it is managing the Beverage Cart. Some of us, like me, may be able to do these things on weekdays also.
Whatever you can do, just being there will be truly appreciated.
I owe ya at least some labor for all the beautiful iris that you shared with me, weegy. So you count me in.
I'm getting better about driving, and I ain't afraid of separating iris. Just don't schedule it for the last two weeks of Sept. or beginning of Oct.
August would be good. : - )
BTW, after planting the iris you sent me, all but two have come up! I can't wait to see what beauties await me!
If nothing else, I can always bring an ice chest full of cold drinks!

Jules, we could travel together, as I do not mind driving.
Good idea, QG, I don't mind carpooling. We can take turns passing out cold drinks, or passing out from the heat. Better yet, we can bring water balloons! LOL!
Truly, it's good to help each other out.
I have a question about the drip irrigation. Does it already have the emitters installed, or do we need to install them? I've used both kinds, and have to admit the kind with the emitters are a lot easier on your hands, and less likely to squirt or fountain, but they are a lot more expensive. Sigh.
Many hands helping with chores means you get to party sooner! LOL!
Set a date, weegy, and we'll be there for you!

I didn't see my name on the list K. I'm up for this.
Done! Thanks, DP.
