Spring Throwdown

Gymgirl: I also think I killed my Talladega tomato plant also. It had these brown looking leaves and I paniced and thought, Early Blight so snatched it out of the 5 gallon bucket and then realized I had put 3 cups of 10-10-10 in the bucket, looking at the directions I realized I had typed in 3 cups and isn't that too much? How much fertilizer did you put in your 5 gallon buckets? I will have to let everyone at church know about the boo boo tomorrow evening so no one else adds too much fertilizer, I didn't do it with all my buckets; but, I read somewhere that if you use too much fertilizer you will wind up with more fertilizer and less fruit - groan. I was looking for okra, and found 4 of them, they were all sold out on that and across from them was thousands of tomatoes, calling "joyce, joyce". Especially the two brandy wines, they must have had 20 different varieties of tomatoes at the local nursery this year, heck, I could have saved myself a lot of work by buying 2 of every kind they had instead of seed starting this year right?

Hello, everyone! I have so much to catch up on, and recipe for Tamarind Soup with all these leafy greens and beans new and old. I apologize I haven't kept up...

Joy,
Yeah, 2 cups of fertilizer to the 5-gallon eBucket, in a ring as far away from the seedling as possible. I put the top half of a Red solo cup around my seedlings before I watered in the fertilizer, to keep it as far away from the roots as possible, AND, to stop the dreaded CUTWORM (you might definitely want to suggest this to your church members -- no heartbreak like waking to find your little seedlings mutilated!). More like make the water run straight down into the reservoir and not wash up against my seedling. They'll pull from the reservoir.

G - E - N - T - L - E watering and patience is called for at this point. Can't do it in a hurry at all!

Gymgirl: My hope is that everyone at the church who has decided to try our bucket idea hasn't prepotted their buckets, eeks! Will have to make sure everyone gets the word about it tomorrow evening. I did cut back to 2 cups when I noticed my mistake, so the first row will get gentle gentle watering for awhile, ran out of containers, have to use all 20 grow bags and resort to using 10 of the 18 gallon totes I used last time all for maters. I even dug out the two topsy turvys.

Don't you just hate having to go back to redo something you messed up? I could get twice as much done, if I did everything right the first time. LOL!

I always say it's me having one of my senior moments and correct it and leave it go at that. LOL
